Not hearing back from an interview a week later, what’s the etiquette? Contact them or chalk it up to experience?

I’m self employed so I have little experience with this.

So, DD18 had an interview last Monday, she felt it went well and the guy said he’d let her know regardless later that day because in his words ‘I’ve been in your place and I hate waiting to hear, so I will let you know either way later today’. That was on Monday 28th September.

It’s fairly obvious she hasn’t been successful, this was a permanent vacancy, she is currently working a seasonal job and had put her supervisor down as a reference, he’s told her today he has not had any contact from this company.

Should she contact the interviewer or just except she most probably hasn’t got the job and chalk it down to experience?

That's very poor from the interviewer. In this scenario I would contact them, even just to ask for some feedback on the interview?

Agree it’s poor form. But she has nothing to lose by following up once

I really hate it when you take the time to prepare and go for an interview and they don’t get back to you.

This happened to me for a job for senior position- so it happens at all ends of the job market.

You just think how long does an email to say ‘thanks but no thanks’.

I once interviewed candidates for an admin post. The previous post holder had already left and, without her to sort our admin out, we were in absolute chaos. I put the successful applicant’s form to one side to call her that afternoon, but immediately lost the bloody thing. I only could find the pile of unsuccessful applicants’ forms. After a couple of days, she called and left a message on our answerphone, to ask for feedback, but didn’t leave a number. The agony! We finally had to accept that we were never going to find the form, and appointed our second choice, who was a complete disaster. It still bothers me, 20 years later.

I’m still waiting to hear back from the FSA from my interview in 2001. Still hopeful 😁
it’s a poor show alright. Nothing to lose from a follow up email saying good to meet last week and ask if they had made a decision yet. It could be something crazy like the guy had an accident on the way home or got pulled into a work crisis. Or it could just be that they are awful at recruitment. I feel your daughter’s pain.

I truly believe a short text or something quick would have been good manners but I did also wonder if he may have gone off sick or something so prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and all that but I'll suggest to dd that she drops him a quick email or message tomorrow.

Here's hoping you'll hear back soon - good luck 😆
