Would you have called the police

Driving home from work i notice two men on off road type bikes on the pavement and a third bike with no one on it. Both men dressed in black, no helmets, balaclavas on. One looked to be looking around and noticed me watching him (in slow moving traffic) and indicated to the other i was. The first watched my car drive away, I could see in the rear view mirror and he didn't take his eyes off.
I called 101 but after ages on hold, gave up.

At the time dialling 999 seemed a bit much given I couldn't see anything happening, but now I'm wondering if I ought to have and if others would in the situation. I just had an uneasy feeling about it all.

What specifically were you planning on reporting?

IDontCareWhatMyUsernameIs · 06/10/2026 17:50

No I wouldn’t, I’m not really sure what you that you felt was report-worthy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Biggerproblems · 06/10/2026 17:52

Well I'm not sure, which is why I didn't call 999. I just had a really uneasy feeling. Something just felt "off".

There are often kids on off road bike, face covered round here. This just felt different.

I doubt anyone would have been interested even if you had managed to speak to someone.
Nothing happened.

Someone looked back at you whilst you were staring at him?

I think the police probably have better things to do with their time.

Chunkybabythighs · 06/10/2026 18:01

...you drove past some parked bikes and wanted to call the police?!

Blimms · 06/10/2026 18:03

What crime was being committed?

OrangeFlower14 · 06/10/2026 18:10

It’s the balaclavas that worried you, correct?

I can see why you’d be Concerned. 101 was the right thing to do. Or try and get their attention on social media, I guess. You can’t be ages on hold I agree.

The balaclavas and one looked like he was keeping "look out".

There is quite a lot of crime/antisocial behaviour in the area. I often see bikes, people with face covered, but this just seemed off.

No crime being committed that I could see, just wondered if I was under reacting and whether others would have been concerned as well.

Totally get it
See if there’s an online reporting tool in your area, maybe?

tealpanda49 · 06/10/2026 18:23

Nope

ShitFacedShakespeare · 06/10/2026 18:27

No I wouldn't have called the police.

I would've thought 'dodgy looking fuckers' and continued on my way.

Sycamoretrees · 06/10/2026 18:28

It is always right to report suspicious behaviour or things that make you feel uneasy like this. The police can then decide if they need to do anything with the report, it may be a small piece in a bigger puzzle
