How are your DCs settling in? How are you finding it? Any major surprises? DC is settling in and has made some friends. The work is easy so far. I hadn’t anticipated how severe the school is or that we’d have to move to packed lunches.

So far so good, I'm struggling with the lack of communication re homework that needs to be done as it's all online on various apps which are a minefield!

There's one dick in my DCs class that's already in isolation - like wtf? It's week 4!!!

happysunr1se · 06/10/2026 12:07

I'm a bit pissed off with the volume of emails they send - 30 since term started! and the multiple websites and apps they want me and separately my child to check every day, but then don't bother to give the log in for any of them so DD has to nag the form teacher every day and so far still haven't got access to one of them!

DS has settled in well. He's quite independent and resilient which I think has helped.

I wasn't prepared for how much he'd be spending on food! Or to be added to a year 7 parents whatsapp group which is, quite frankly, completely batshit!

Yes there a LOT of comms and apps!
@happysunr1sehow can your DC do their homework? I bet they’re pleased about that!

I thought the good/bad point app would log if DC did something really good or really bad, but it seems so random and DC doesn’t even know what many of the points are for. Teachers must be having to log things hundreds of times a day each. However, they don’t say what the points are for, so it makes the waste of time an even bigger waste of time. It’s all very random. Please have eleventy billion points for ambition or harmony or some other meaningless bollocks and here’s a bad point for not doing your homework even though you did actually do it.

On PE days DCs don’t know what sport they’ll be doing, so have to carry football boots, shin pads, trainers and kits around all day. Do your schools have lockers and have any been released yet?

What did the kid end up in isolation for?

Doing ok here. We got lockers and iPads on day-1 and School App access set up before school started. Nothing much else that we need access to. All homework and comms are on Teams (iPad) and attendance, points, lunch money etc on school system.

they have set for Maths, English and French. 4 tests already, Maths x2, English, RE.

it’s all running smoothly and music recitals start soon. Couldn’t have hoped for more!
