I am sick of people's attitudes

Now I'm 65 I'm thoroughly sick of people's attitude towards me.
I'm having a lot of medical treatment at the moment on top of my full time hectic job and it's quite a palaver getting to and from the hospital as they won't let you go home in a taxi or drive after any kind of procedure and won't do the procedure if you don't have anyone to take you home which I don't. They don't allow you to go home in a taxi.
Luckily I found out about the Red Cross volunteer service who will take you home after procedures so that's all sorted out and I don't have to worry about how I'm getting home any more.
Then you have "well meaning" friends who pop up and say oh I'll take you I'm not doing anything that day (which I smile and ignore because I know full well what's about to happen), I'll go in and feed your cats etc etc, then all of a sudden they get cold feet and don't want to be burdened with taking me anywhere just in case I make a habit of asking them to do this and cancel on the day or the day before.
Luckily I'm wise to this and just book the red cross and my cat sitter in plenty of time beforehand.
Then they develop this attitude towards me as if I've pestered them for lifts and now they are fed up with it. I never ask anyone for anything. I'm a proud woman and take care of my own problems.
Another friend has just done it and all of a sudden I'm filled with rage and just can't talk to him.
If I'd accepted the lift I'd be high and dry tomorrow and completely stuck yet he has the snotty attitude and is avoiding me.
What's wrong with people?

I can understand your frustration, that sounds very annoying.

It's nice of people to offer of course but when you are quite sure they won't follow through I would just say "oh thank you but that's all sorted" then go on to talk about something else. They then feel good about making the offer and you are happy you cannot be though of as 'asking' for anything.

Sympathies, OP, it sounds really annoying. They want to think of themselves as helpful and reliable. Your situation has drawn attention to the ways in which they aren't reliable. Then they blame you for making them feel guilty. You can't win, really.
