Partner ready for a baby! (Advice)

So me and my partner spoke about having a baby at the beginning of the year but he wasn’t ready yet but said he did want one. We spoke again on June and he said we could start taking prenatal vitamins this December but not necessarily trying yet just have the vitamins. I asked him last night if he still wanted to start our vitamins in December and he said yes. I then asked how long after taking vitamins he wanted to start trying and he said “how long do people say you need to” and I just said “ideally at least a month minimum” and he said “well at least a month then”

I left it at that as I didn’t want to push him haha. But from that, would you take it as he’d be ready to try from January? Thanks x

At face value, yes. Do you think he is as keen as you are? Or is he perhaps procrastinating?

Summerishere123 · Today 21:58

Yes I would, but I would check again before starting them. "Does me taking these mean we are TTC next Month?"

mumalaoxxo · Today 22:01

Yes he is keen but he’s a very calm guy haha so it would more than likely be me what brings it up. I don’t want to push my luck so I left the conversation there. He said in June to start our vitamins in December to prepare our body’s etc so back in June I thought maybe months later. But when I asked a few days ago that was the conversation above? So with him saying “at least 1 month minimum then” makes me think he’s happy to go ahead in January . Just wanted to hear other people’s views Incase I got the wrong end

You’d know if you’ve got the wrong end of the stick if you just ask him outright.

If you can’t do that then are you really in a healthy, committed enough relationship to have a baby?

PinkWaffleMaker · Today 22:05

Why does he think he’ll feel any different in December or January to how he feels now? It’s a bit odd.

Tryagain26 · Today 22:06

Ho old are you both?
Why don't you just have a serious and honest conversation and ask him?
Are you sure you are ready to be parents?

our interpretations aren't useful. you need to know what he means.

also, you should start taking your vitamins now.

Why arent you taking prenatal vits already? You could end up pregnant any time

Most women of childbearing age don’t take prenatal vitamins because they could in theory get pregnant at anytime.

I assume OP and her DP are using contraceptive.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · Today 22:25

the book what to expect when you’re expecting has lots of info about preparing for trying

Wolfiefan · Today 22:27

You ask him. How old are you and how long have you been together?

fashionqueen0123 · Today 22:28

Are you married or planning on it? Do you live together?

seahorsessky · Today 22:30

Might mean he's keen, and maybe he should look up advice for himself, too? If you want to, both read up on listeria and things to avoid. As some of the things, well everyone knows, like alcohol and smoking, but many people don't find out about foods to avoid until after being pregnant. Obviously your choice, but if you're taking vitamins, you're presumably interested.

Sunbringer · Today 22:39

Generally I think if you have time it’s a good idea to take 6 months to get into optimum health before trying. I’d assume that he probably is still feeling scared and unready but feels under pressure. I’d want another honest chat.
