My 16 year old daughter has been asked to babysit , she has never done it before and I haven't used a babysitter in about 10 years 😱 ( now have a group of friends who always babysit for each other) . As a result I have no idea how much she should charge. What do people tend to pay???

How many hours are we talking?
£90 seem a bit steep?

I pay the London Living Wage.

I think £15ph is reasonable.

We live in Cambridge and our local handy teenager costs £13 an hour. So 7-midnight is £65.
I'd imagine a bit more in London?

20 per hour and they are responsible for getting her home (by car or Uber)

I pay £10 per hour to 16 year old neighbour.

My 16 yo in the home counties has a regular weekly sitting job for two very well behaved children (evening: one child already in bed when she arrives, one requiring about 30-45 minutes of board game/story/attention before bedtime), and she gets £25 for 3 hours.

£20 per hour to an inexperienced 16 year old who has never babysat, so she can watch TV for a few hours, is waaaayyyyy over the top.

£20 per hour is what my friend who is a level 3 nursery practitioner, has a pediatric first aid qualification and 2 kids of her own charges. I can't envisage anyone paying that amount for an inexperienced teenager.

Hmmm interesting range! I was wondering if 8 or 10 pound an hour, seems i was selling my daughter short 🙈. That said I cant believe many pay a 16 year old 20 pound an hour for babysitting. Not sure how people afford to go out for an evening at that rate!

Thinking about it, feels day time ( i.e children up and need entertaining ) v evening when children should be in bed , should be different rate. Would £12 ph day and £ 10 ph evening be fair ?

Young workers aged 16 to 17 are entitled to at least £8 per hour.
£10 would be fine for a 16 yo without any qualifications. Most likely I would pay a bit more but again teenager with no experience.

And she pay tax.

My DD aged 17 has a regular role looking after a child after school, near London, and charges £8ph.
