My kids father only sees them 1 night a week.

Is this acceptable in your eyes? 1 night a week, no other communication in the week, doesnt see them during week or asks about them. It went from 8 night a month, to 6 and now 4. He says he’s having to drop it to once a week coz hes tired after work but so am I? Yet I have to be a mum!!! They are 2 and 6. I’m always constantly asking him if he wants to have the kids or see them but always excuses

Sorry I wrote this on the wrong chat. He hasn’t worked for 8 years and now has told me he’s working 6 days? His story changes every week and he starts stuttering when we ask about his hours etc, I think he may be lying about something as he changes stuff all the time

I said I can bring the kids to stay once he’s finished work so we don’t have to change anything or make the nights less and he said no cause he wil be exhausted yet I have the kids full time and work!??? Angers me

I do hope he’s paying maintenance but I’m betting it’s fuck all. Sorry you’re all saddled with this loser for an ex/father

Freeme31 · 05/10/2026 16:30

Lazy mucker ! Does he pay maintenance, was he always like this was that his experience of his own upbringing absent father?

frostylou777 · 05/10/2026 16:32

He’s only benefits and only just started his new job so nothing set in stone , he gives me £100 a month for both kids which was a personal arrangement but I’m always chasing it for days and never get it on the day we agreed

I’m just seeking advice on what to do? Do I still send them for that 1 night , he constantly texting my if we drop them later etc, he has the 1 night!!!! You should be ready for your kids

I would at least for a while and see if it settles. I think it's important for the children to have a relationship with their father.

LowlandLucky · 05/10/2026 16:42

Don't bother trying to organise his life, he is not in the slightest bit interested in his children. If you have mutual friends maybe one will tell you where he is working. If he is get on to the cms and ask them to chase payments.

AppropriateAdult · 05/10/2026 18:43

He should be seeing them several times per week in order to maintain a parental relationship with them, but in all honesty I doubt overnights are of any benefit whatsoever to the children (although I know it would be a break for you, which I’m sure you need). He sounds fairly useless, OP. I would stop making much effort on your part, let him do the running if he has any interest in being a father.

HavingABlether · 05/10/2026 18:47

I always say that people will have the relationship with their children that they deserve. If he can't or won't make time for them, he will miss out far more than they will.

Freeme31 · 05/10/2026 19:37

Drop the 1 night and go for fill maintenance

TheBlueKoala · 05/10/2026 19:40

@frostylou777 Don't push him to have the kids more because who knows how he'll treat them if he doesn't want them there. Some parents are just useless.
