Diarrhoea? Soak it and then scrub with Vanish before washing.

Be prepared to chuck it away.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/10/2026 16:22

I just binned the clothes when this happened.

If it's white you could bleach it. Or dye it.

That’s frustrating. Always seems to happen when they are wearing the ‘nicer’ clothes.
soak in a diluted bleach solution?

You're the second person to use the term 'blowout' never heard it in my 41 years and raising of two children to mean a nappy explosion. Always thought it was a 'Poonami'. A blowout in America is getting your hair blow dried at the hairdressers. Two very different things best not mixed up.

I digress....

Rinse in cold water, use stain remover, I recommend Dr Beckmann with the brush on the end. Its fabulous. However if its particularly stubborn use the vanish soap bar and you'll need to apply and wash it multiple times but its always done the trick for me.

Good luck.

P.s. if it keeps happening put a nappy on top of the normal nappy back to front.

Hot wash and vanish stain removing powder - I regularly have to clean up blowouts from my stoma and always gets everything back to white

You need to scrape off the excess, then run it under a cold tap from the back of the stain. I’d probably soak it in some Vanish overnight tbh, then wash it with a biological detergent and some more Vanish on a 60 if the fabric allows it.

@BaileysHotChocolateByThePool People say blow out for nappy explosions in America too.

@newmummy2006yay I use cold water and washing up liquid to scrub out as much of the stain as possible, before it goes in the washing machine.

Honestly, put it on the washing line in the sun for a week. If it’s raining even better. The sun lifts a lot of natural stains very well.
