Thick hotel style duvet but for all year around

I'm looking for a really thick and plump duvet, that is not much more than a 10.5 tog and less than approx £100 for a king size. Any recommendations? There are so many on the market! I'm sick of buying nice bedding and it looking flat.

I got a similar 100% cotton one from a large M&S many years ago. Absolutely love it and use it all year round. It’s very heavy (9-10 tog) and DH cannot stand it. It’s all mine now as I’ve decided I don’t want to share!

bababamama · 04/10/2026 20:25

I have one with a bit of weight, 10.5tog from dunelm, was £55 last year

PolkaDotPorridge · 04/10/2026 20:54

Try Next. One of ours is 10.5 but it is really thick and lovely. Bought it a few months ago.

Why, what do you want it to look like?
It’s not gonna look like an Instagram picture

Bjorkdidit · 04/10/2026 21:18

Won't you be boiling under a 10.5 tog duvet?

I just wondered if you’d been looking at Instagram because you said you were tired of your bedding looking flat

A really thick and plump duvet would probably be more than 10.5 tog but even then they are mostly designed so that they don’t look that plump you usually want a different type of bedding for that

There's this seller on Ebay that sells off seconds of really good duvets for a fraction of the price. I'm currently wrapped up in a dorma duvet (double) I paid £18 for because it had slightly uneven filling in one corner. I can find the name if you want.

Copperoliverbear · 04/10/2026 23:04

Next feels like silk.

Slumberdown Chilly Nights 15 Tog King Size Duvet is currently £20 on amazon in the Amazon prime deal. Bought a couple last year, and found they were as good as my more expensive winter duvet from next.

I've got an amazing one with that awesome hotel heavy quality feel. It's not down but has that sense of luxury. You actually get two you clip together - so a low tog for summer, a higher one for most of the year. And clip the two together for those cold winter nights we sometimes get (or when you want to sleep with the window open in winter - as I do - even in freezing temperatures)

The idea of 10.5 tog (and 15 tog also mentioned) makes me feel ill as I'd be so ridiculously hot. We are in a new build and even with the window open all year round we've not needed to go above 2.5 tog.

I hate self catering cottages' bedding as I've yet to stay in one with a low tog duvet. I spend my breaks sweaty and sleep deprived (I can't sleep without a cover, or even just a sheet).

purpleme12 · 04/10/2026 23:40

10 tog duvet is perfect for when the house is 19 degrees and lower. When it's 19 degrees you wear summer pyjamas and as the house temperature gets lower you wear warmer pyjamas so it's always ok.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2026 05:26

Buy a wool one. Not cheap , but I love mine. It’s only a spring one ( 4 tog) but with a thin blanket on top it’s fine for the winter too. Baavet duvets online sell them.

Ineffable23 · 05/10/2026 05:34

I am always far too hot in hotel rooms under the giant thick duvets, unless I throw all the windows open all night. But then my room is 19 degrees and I'm very comfy under a 4 tog feather duvet currently.

I think I would have to get one of those clip together sorts if I really wanted one duvet that would do a year round.

In midwinter my house can get down to 13 overnight so I do need something warmer than my current duvet! Seems like the portion of the year for which that's true continues to shrink though!

Wool is great but it is never going to be plump like the OP wants

Etherealcelestialbeing · 05/10/2026 06:16

I got a plump 10.5tog from m & s last year. Was around £50-60 I think. It’s down filled. Our house gets cold so it’s just come out for the winter now to replace the summer duvet.

For you. I'd die a hot sweaty death! Our bedroom was 17.5° when we got into bed last night. We still have the summer arrangement of flat sheet + bedspread.

StressedEric · 05/10/2026 06:22

Dorma forever full 10.5 tog
I use them at home and also in my holiday lets.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/10/2026 06:30

Silent Night Air Max. It's a box gusset so has that plumpness without being too heavy. Comes in 10.5 & 13 tog.

I would be at the minute but not in winter. I sleep with a 13.5 tog wool duvet and a throw when it’s really cold

If you check on each individual listing it'll give you details of what any fault is. The duvets with 'fully bound edges' tend to be the more premium quality ones.
