What do you use to catch water from the washing machine filter?

What do you use to empty your washing machine filter? My machine is on the blink and I've painstakingly emptied the drum of water and then the drain hose thing. But the filter is so low down, I can't think of what I could put underneath it to catch the water. It needs to be very shallow, fairly rigid so it can be picked up when full, and wide enough to catch a decent amount. I thought I was being clever when I thought of cutting down an old takeaway box, but the plastic split down to the bottom when I tried, making it useless. I wish designers would factor this in.

I just put towels down

I bought something from SHEIN for this purpose and when it arrived last week it was ridiculously tiny - the photo was so misleading and it wouldnt even catch a cup full of water ! So watching this too OP

Towel and a baking tray.

Same.
Does your machine have a flexible pipe with a stopper? Mine does so I can direct most of the water out into a shallow plastic box before twisting open the filter.

Just an old towel.

FloofyKat · Today 00:16

I use an old, large towel.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · Today 00:16

Mines so annoying, it's less than half an inch above the floor so I have to use towels. Nothing fits under it. I tried a really shallow baking tray but it held next to nothing and was so full I spilt it everywhere anyway when I tried to move it!

I understand it has to be at the bottom of all the pipework, but you'd think all the internal gubbins could be just an inch or 2 higher without it being an insurmountable problem!

I have a baking tray that almost fits . I have to tip it slightly. I can get the equivalent of about 2 cups of water before I have to emypty the tray.

Next time I might try a plastic bottle with both ends cut off.and direct it another container/tray of some aurt.

I use an old tupperware container, that doesn't quite fit. I have to tip it, and always spill a little bit when removing to empty. But that has been the official receptacle for draining the filter for the past 15 years, and will never change!

I did that thing with the pipe the last time but was unpleasantly surprised at how much water came out of the filter. I turned it very gently, all fine, but then it suddenly came off in my hand and a big gush came out

Dustpan from dustpan and brush, tilted slightly upwards and keep a washing up bowl beside me to tip water in to.

Frazzles473 · Today 00:53

I place a nappy directly under the filter and it absorbs all the water.

comeondover · Today 00:55

I reckon the solution would have to be no more than 2cm high in my setup, so frying pans and baking trays would be too deep, unfortunately.

Thanks for all the responses. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who's wondered about this.

Waste of a nappy. Just use a baking tray and a dirty towel that is getting washed anyway!

A tea tray or baking tray.

If the drum is drained via the outlet hose it's usually no more than a cupful of water at most. It looks like a flood when it's pissing unchecked all over your floor, but it really isn't.

A plastic bag, works everytime. I used to try the baking tray but this is so much better

Having recently had to check the filter approximately 50 times in a 3 day period… I perfected the technique with a baking tray
