My daughter has entered into A-level Photography. She has a vague idea of working in Marketing/media.
Could the camera experts out there recommend a decent camera please?
Maybe under £500.

Photography teacher here. Get a secondhand camera from CEX. My personal recommendation as I shoot on Canon would be a mirrorless Canon R100 (people say they are not great because of no touchscreen but I personally have one as my second body and they are fine for the price- mine was £200). If you want more features, get the Canon 650D or 700D with an 18-55kit lens to learn the ropes, build up a couple of decent EF lenses, and then upgrade to a mirrorless (you can use an EF-RF adapter for the lenses if you get older EF lenses, they work beautifully on mirrorless cameras, I actually think the bog standard 18-55 EF kit lens is better than the new RF mirrorless one) when she has a bit more money. Some will say the 650/700D is obsolete but mirrorless cameras haven’t fallen in price much yet and the basics of exposure/composition haven’t changed and nor have the photos from those older cameras. The last 2 places I worked since 2023 have had 600-700D cameras still; my last job was marketing and in this teaching job, the cameras are for the students to learn on/experiment with. We produce good printed work with these cameras. NOTE: Just check the A-level spec for which cameras you can’t use before buying. I teach the US curriculum now and it’s slightly different here.

If you suddenly come into some money an R50 or R10 would be nice to have instead but they are spendy especially when you factor lenses in.

Thanks so much for your advice. Even better that you are a Photography teacher too! My daughter wishes to go into Marketing. 😁
