Hydrocolloid plasters

I don't get them! I put one on fresh wound and a thin scab still managed to form. You're not supposed to wear them for longer than 7 days so I changed it and in the process managed to rip this scab off because it was so fused with the skin. Should I have left it on longer even though you're not supposed to? I have another one on another injury I haven't changed yet...

I don’t understand them at all. You’ve reminded me a few years back I had a blister on my heel. I popped one of those compeed plasters on it and forgot about it for a couple of days

went to peel it off and my god. The smell! It was just a gunky mess of flesh that smelled rotting . Never ever again. Just let it air dry now

somanychristmaslights · 02/10/2026 21:01

This happened to my son and it made his blister much worse. It’s like some of the flesh came off with it, and seemed to create a “crater”. Won’t ever use them again.

Eww gross! Don't get why they're sold as faster healing.

I think they're brilliant. I managed to get massive blisters on the soles of both my heels from a pair of sandals. Without the Compeed plasters I couldn't have walked.

mumumental · 02/10/2026 22:59

Are they the clear gel plasters?

purpleme12 · 02/10/2026 23:16

They always work really well for me for blisters

But I don't use those sorts of plasters for normal cuts or whatever. Just use normal plasters for that

Same here. I got a blister on the sole of my foot earlier this year and used a compeed plaster for the first time ever. It was amazing!

They are great for blisters, abscesses and spots, drawing out stuff. I would never put them on an open wound, is that a thing?

farmlass · 02/10/2026 23:41

Short term use only
To reduce pain of blisters and hacks - excellent eg to continue walking / running . Change regularly .
we used them for ulcers ( specialised in wound care) but have to be monitored very carefully .

I swear by them after a fall resulted in a horrendously grazed face. I had them put on at minor injuries and they stopped any scarring at all. The wound has to be meticulously clean before they’re applied. They let the wound hear from the inside out. I only changed my dressings once and the gunk and sludge that came off when I took the dressing off had me panicking but after 10 days I was fully healed up and you could barely tell anything had happened.

I’ve only had to use them once since and again had brilliant results from them

Mmm, maybe I took mine off too soon at 4 days?

They’re great for drawing out splinters/thorns too.

Ponderingwindow · 03/10/2026 04:56

They are the only thing I use because most brands of them don’t trigger an adhesive allergy for me.
