My ID wasn’t checked at the bank

I wanted to withdraw money but didn’t want to use the cash machine so I went to the person at the till. I just needed £20. Having my card on me was enough, no ID required. I’m just a bit surprised - if someone found my card and went to the bank they’d be able to withdraw money too? Would the bank return my money if this happened? Is it because it’s a small amount - would they want more info if I’d want £100?

Edited to add I didn’t need my pin either

Did you have to put your pin in the machine at the counter?

I suppose they assume it's okay up to the contactless limit.

That is odd.

Ah maybe. On balance the risk that it’s not me is worth taking to keep queues down. 🤷‍♀️
