Looking for some career advice!
I dropped out of uni and got a call centre job. After 18 months managed to find a finance assistant role, just basic admin etc. Then after a year or so was promoted to Assistant Financial Accountant - lots of balance sheet recs basically for a large corporate so large volumes of data and lots of project work, sales ledger. I started studying ACCA too.
I then realised I’ve been doing this job for four years and because everything was based around large balance sheet recs I didn’t know my way around a P&L. Applied for a job in a management accounts team for another business, title was Financial Operations Senior. That was daily bank recs, Daily Cash flow reports, prepayments, accruals, some balance sheet recs, and some supervision of an admin assistant. The environment was beyond toxic and after 9 months I saw virtually the exact same job description come up so thought why suffer and applied and got the job.
Except I’m now 6 months in and was completely catfished - I just spend all day uploading purchase invoices. It’s been such a backwards step and I’m still only 5 ACCA exams in as I find it difficult to find the time. I only earn £30k and feel so trapped. When I look at jobs online they’re either assistant level 25-30k or want somebody fully qualified for 40k+.
Can anyone please advise what they’d do in my position?
