Why is Levosert not approved for HRT like Mirena?

Anyone know why the levosert coil is not approved for use for HRT but mirena coil is? As far as I can see they both contain same 52 mg of levonorgestrel. Any chance it'll be approved any time soon?

I believe the manufacturer never applied for a license for it to be used as HRT so their decision rather than it not having been approved. Perhaps the cost of the clinical trials was prohibitive. Is there a clinical reason that you were given Levosert over Mirena? Just possibly there might be a consideration for your GP to use if off license.

No, just had it done at the sexual health clinic and it was for contraception rather than HRT, but the nurse said both brands were the same but given I'm 45 could be used for HRT in the future if I wanted. I just assumed the levosert was cheaper and I had no strong preferences. Bit late to do anything about it now! Should have done my research.
