What would you do re half term holiday?

I live with husband, my two children and stepchild. My kids are going to their dad’s over the October half term. I was due to be working. My husband is thinking of taking some time off and going away somewhere for a few days with stepdaughter. I can take time off and go with them.

But I feel bad because I know my children’s dad won’t be taking them anywhere and I felt I had to offer them the chance to come along. My youngest has bad anxiety so didn’t want to come but my eldest was keen. But now husband is saying we can’t afford a trip for 4 of us. And I shouldn’t have mentioned it to my children.

We have already taken my stepdaughter away without my children once this year and I kind of squared it in my mind because we were meeting up with my in-laws who my children don’t know that well.

So now my husband is claiming he really needs a break and that he won’t get one because of me. I’ve suggested either we look for something cheaper for the 4 of us, or he goes away with stepdaughter without me. I’d be quite happy at home on my own for a few days, but my husband is saying that I’ll never hear the end of it if he does that.

so, WWYD?

Not an answer to your question (sorry)
but does their dad not mind one of them going away with you instead of going to him?

Stay home; enjoy some time on your own. Why would you never hear the end of it?
Let your DH go with his DD so they can have some time together.
Let your own DCs have some time with their dad.

Wave your DH and stepdaughter goodbye and enjoy the couple of days rest.

I would find plenty to do on my own.

Why would he never hear the end of it? Criticism from others, or would you martyr yourself and go on about it?

Let him go alone with dd. Not worth arguing over.

No, he said I would martyr myself and moan at him, I really wouldn’t, I’d be quite happy home alone!

That’s what I’m waiting to find out from their dad. He hasn’t voiced an opinion yet. DC1 is a typical surly 16 year old!

I'd tell DH to go with stepchild now then you organise to go with DH and just your DC on next holiday. I'd let DC go to their dad's house and enjoy a few days off having to cook. I'd get lots of bits and pieces done around the house that usually gets overlooked and probably meet up with friends for lunch a couple of times.
