Has anyone got any recommendations for central hotels in Krakow? Looking at doing 3 nights October half term! Thanks

Hopeful bump as I need somewhere too!

I don't know about hotels, but as far as air b&b goes avoid this place: Saint Thomas Corner - by Upstairs

It was bloody awful, not as described, small, dirty and uncared for. Possibly the worst place I have ever stayed in.

Krakow was stunning though.

Old time apart hotel was great, stayed there recently. It’s 10 minutes walk from the station and 10-15 minutes from the centre of old town. Clean and comfortable as well as quiet at night. It was exactly what we needed for a city break

We stayed at the Wyndham, it was absolutely lovely!

My daughter is desperate to go to auschwitz so that is the purpose of the break! She is 14 and it will just be the two of us so I want to feel safe but also not have to walk to far to get the the main areas, I’ve never been so I’m clueless, is the old town the best place for food/shopping etc?

The place I said to avoid was bloody awful, but it was about a 2 minute walk at best from the main square and about a 10 minute walk from the railway station.

There were a number of what looked like reasonable hotels, one only a couple of doors away nearby and there were many places to eat.

Dh is lactose free and I'm vegetarian and we both ate well. Food was ridiculously cheap.
We intend to return to Krakow and stay in the area again as it was perfect, just in a better hotel next time.

I have stayed at the Leonardo Old Town on my own, was perfectly placed and felt really safe.

We stayed in Avena Hotel by Artery which was lovely. Little bit out but on tram route & brilliant market just across from the hotel. Also did Auschwitz with 14yr old teenager & it was so poignant. Banksy museum also good for bopping into if you get cheap enough txs

Ds stayed in an Ibis in Krakow, most of their hotels when interailing were Ibis, clean, basic but still good places to stay.

I stayed at Hotel Polonia- pretty, cheap, clean, central, decent breakfast. Our Auchwitz tour pickup was about a t minute walk. Would definitely stay there again.

Have you already booked your tickets for Auschwitz? If you want a tour in English, they may well already be sold out for this October half term - they can sell out weeks in advance, especially the English speaking tours during peak times such as school holidays. It's worth checking before you book a hotel/flights, if this is the main reason for going to Krakow.

Also, please don't do what we did - we booked an organised tour through Get Your Guide - and we were let down the night before we were due to visit Auschwitz. Having read some of the comments on facebook pages, this is common with outside operators, and you should book direct with Auschwitz.

In the end, we were lucky to get a place on a tour, but in Polish, which was better than not going at all, as there was plenty to read in English, and the tour guide was kind enough to pass us on to an English speaking guide for the Birkenbau part of the tour, but this isn't something they usually do. But to get the most from your visit, especially if this is something your daughter is desperate to do, it's best to have a tour in a language that she will understand.

We stayed in Stradom House, Autograph Collection (it’s a Marriott) earlier in the year and it was lovely. Pool, spa, cool bar, and fabulous location right by the Castle and near the Jewish District.

Loved Krakow. Can’t wait to go back. Hope you love it too.

Leonardo Boutique Hotel. On the edge of the old town but also only ten minutes walk from the Kazimierz district. Small, stylish, nice staff, not overly expensive as I remember.

We stayed at the Ventus Rosa Aparthotel three years ago. From memory it was fairly central, about ten/fifteen minutes to the main square. Loads of buses and trams nearby too.
It had its own kitchenette. Breakfasts were huge. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and spacious

Very good advice about checking to see if you're able to book onto a tour.

The Schindler factory was engrossing. Again it would likely be very busy at half term.

For a bit of light relief I would recommend the salt mines - weirdly fascinating.
It's a gorgeous city - absolutely worth visiting.

Queen boutique was absolutely amazing! Walkable distance to main square and lots of lovely places to eat
