Curious local houses/buildings

In my immediate neighbourhood, there is a house which is set way, way back from the others, on a road which is basically a one-sided, long cul-de-sac, adjacent to a main road (I know it sounds confusing). It seems bigger and grander than it's neighbours.

I've never seen anyone come or go from there when I've gone past, but lights are on sometimes. I sometimes wonder why the house was built there, and who lives there. I like to imagine an eccentric old aristocrat living reclusively. Is there a house or building in your area that you are curious about?

Could all the other houses have been built in the grounds of the big house?

Yes, just near me is a row of 5 terraces cottages. I didn’t realise until one came up for sale that the middle three have no windows at the back, or back gardens. Turns out over 100 years ago the end two houses were owned by the same person, and he illegally built an extension between the two, thereby blocking up the middle cottages and taking their land!

I like your thinking. From what I know of the history, and the positions of the other houses (basically in a long row in each direction), I think it's unlikely.

@DaftHapeth That's terrible. But interesting

I think I posted this at the wrong time of night. Anyone have a local house they are curious about?
