What job could I do?

Suggestions of jobs that I could do, please?

I'm 50 and have been homeschooling DS9 for the past few years. He is going back to school next year as he needs more conventional socialization, and I am in need of conversation with other adults, income and pension contributions. i need to find a job.

Before DS was born, I was an academic biologist. My areas of expertise have now largely been superseded or are not available where we live (moving isn't an option). My transferrable skills are lab skills with live organisms and lots of technical experience with all forms of microscopy, sifting through and synthesising large quantities of descriptive data, writing papers; and teaching (writing and delivering lectures and tutorials, usually on topics I didn't work on). I also did a lot of logistical planning for fieldwork, and did a lot of fieldwork.

Startups might be an option, but they tend to be in areas of science where I have vastly less knowledge than the average science graduate now.

Science writing jobs may well have been decimated by AI. I used to work as an editor for journals, and later as a copy editor. I was dismayed by the direction things were heading 10 years ago in terms of the field being flooded with garbage.

I would find high school teaching so stressful that I'd probably be very bad at it: I don't have the ease of dealing with people that it would require.

I quite enjoy teaching children to play music, and have done a lot of this in the past 10 years, but I have no qualifications.

With that profile, can anyone think of anywhere I'd be useful? I feel old, tired, superannuated and useless. I need to get my arse in gear, i just don't currently feel like I know how.

Working in a hospital lab?

is there any local music groups that need assistants?

Not very exciting, but Christmas retail jobs are now being g advertised. Get one of these as a short term measure.

The environment agency might have a suitable job for your skill set and expertise.

I work for the EA and was about to say that, except… we’re on a recruitment freeze. Some key roles are being advertised, but not many. But we are very open to career-returners.
