Help me help DD (13) who has OCD and now seems to have inherited my terrible PMS ☹️

Any ideas welcome.

She is really struggling today, she’s just gone to bed wiped out after a terrible evening of crying and saying she feels useless ☹️

her period is due any day now but she’s not regular yet really so don’t know exactly how soon.

she’s on meds for the OCD (severe) which make life bearable but it’s still an ongoing struggle. (She is seeing specialist ocd therapist but it’s slow slow progress albeit steady)

we suspect ND but not going down any kind of diagnosis route yet as she just can’t cope with another round of appointments and diagnoses.

luckily she has friends and (believe it or not!) is otherwise happy.

the PMS is awful. Just yet another thing she struggles with. I have had it too all my life so I know how she feels but apart from telling her I know how she feels and being calm, kind
snd sympathetic I don’t know how to alleviate it for her.

Already keep her schedule to bare minimum. Priority is to keep up school attendance and her friendships.

Already try to build in downtime and relaxation (the OCD makes her v tired) so eg nice bubble bath, fun crap tv, good book, nice food.

is there anything else I can do?!

Things are tough on daily basis; throwing in extra days of mood swings and tears is just so hard.

any advice?

tia

OP. I am sorry, PMS is awful. I give my daughter magnesium chelated from Solgar, Omega3 from Omvi, well teen girls, she goes to pilates and yoga, and I put meditations on. It helps; it is not a cure.

We are thinking of trying solution based hypnosis or acupuncture or both. She doesn’t want birth control tablets. Perhaps solution based hypnosis could help with OCD too? I am not an expert but will try anything than going through PMS every month,

Things are worse with school and when they are tired; better on the holidays so I give the vitamins to help with energy levels.

Cutting down on sugar, dairy, wheat should help too.

It’s worth reading this. I let ds read relevant sections too, although it’s generally for the parent.

Reading what?

Thank you followingthestars that is good advice, night appreciated. I do give her Well Teen but not as regularly as I should, she gets very resistant if I push things (one of the reasons I think ND) and it feels as if it’s a battle I don’t need! However you’re quite right that keeping on top of nutrients might help so I will make sure I keep on top of the multi vit. Haven’t heard of that magnesium, does it help with sleep?

Struggle too to keep as on top of thf healthy foods as I would like as with the ocd she has food restrictions eg struggles with meat, dairy (worries it is contaminated) so there are periods where it’s just a case of Any Calorie Will Do…

Thank you, your kind words mean a lot x

Thank you, I’ve not come across this book, have you found it helpful? Sounds like you have a DC with OCD too so huge sympathies x
