Hello my daughter has pretty bad period pain and I was wondering if she should start the pill to alleviate this extra stress- she is 15 and will be until summer- any experience of this welcome, thank you.

Sounds sensible. Both mine started in y10 to help with heavyness issues and predictability.

This is something to ask your GP, surely? It will depend on the child.

My daughter recently went on the combined pill age 13 to treat extremely heavy painful periods. You can safely run packs together.

I will of course ask the GP but I didn’t know if it was a “thing” thanks for replying,

My DD has the pill to minimise her periods. She frequently runs 2-3 packs together before having a break and times the breaks for weeks she isn’t doing much as her periods will incapacitate her for at least 24 hours - not ideal when you have an exam.

Definitely look into it now so she can get used to it before her exams.

The running packs, or part packs, together is what makes it do helpful, because then your DD can time breaks in convenient times, it makes a massive difference.

For teens to be on the pill? Yes, it’s very much ‘a thing’

My d, had severe pain, nausea etc and was put on the POP, it has really helped, although it can cause some erratic bleeding which isn’t liked by everyone. I would say though to consider reviewing it at some point - I think historically many teens have been on the pill for bad periods, stayed on it, then come off it when wanting to conceive, only to find that their symptoms were due to endometriosis or similar and the pill just masked the underlying problem.
