Making small changes to improve my life

Under a lot of stress right now and want to start making small improvements just make me feel happier.

Ive slowly quit smoking and now just vaping which i appreciate is actually a massive improvement but today I got scissors happy and cut my hair with the help of AI 😂 Its gone from being past my boobs to now a bob type with a fringe and its made me so happy!

Im looking at how to make other small changes to make me happy just to claim a little bit of myself back. Anyone have any ideas? Can be anything.

I can't work atm as I am a carer so thats out of the window and I already drive. But I will take on board any other suggestions.

Well done on quitting smoking, that's huge ☺
Maybe do an online free course, focus on a hobby or make some time to read every day.

I would look at what is difficult at the moment, what do you do too much off or not enough?

MyFavouriteGame · 28/09/2026 14:53

I go to the gym. Depends what you have time and money for?

Quitting smoking is an EXCELLENT start, OP!

Do you have anything that is achievable right now on your long-term to-do list? I mean, after about five years, I've just registered with the local dentist 😳

What about a new hobby or interest that you've always wanted to try, like learning an instrument or a language? You could learn some online, or take lessons (depending on your requirements as a carer).

I am trying to do more things that are outside of my comfort zone, to make me braver to try new things (e.g. I learnt to ski; I'd never been on a plane by myself before, so I booked a holiday and ended up on six; I went to a live music event where the biggest off-putting thing was a crowd; I'm thinking of sky-diving or going to London next, because I'm not a fan of heights, busy places or cities).

I also take great pleasure in cooking. I like to try out new recipes and, most of the time, they work out fantastically well! I do it as batch cooking, so it feeds me for the best part of a week.

Cooking might be good! I always said I would learn to cook something than a Sunday roast or anything that wasn't frozen. 😂 I might give that a whirl to be honest. I used to love baking too but haven't had the time.
Gym sadly isn't for me, I have a condition where my joints can dislocate so I have to be careful but I do have a walking treadmill I could dust off and use.

Oh, I can give you my list and you can see if anything sounds interesting. I'm a work in progress!

Look at my diet - eat more fibre, eat more protein, eat mackerel/salmon for the omega 3 every week, take vitamin d supplement

Drink alcohol less often - either drink water or alcohol free beer and wine more than booze

Sort my finances - create emergency fund. Learn how to invest. Automate saving. Check pension

Boundaries and feeling safe asserting my opinion

Walk more( a few minutes on my walking pad after each meal)

Declutter the house. Sell stuff on vinted

Consistently do pelvic floor exercises.

Some sort of stretching routine

Some sort of social hobby/volunteering. I'm think about doing age uk befriending
