If you started your period at a young age, did you DDs too?

I started my period at 10 years old and whilst we're a few years off my DD reaching that age, it's something that I'm aware could be coming sooner rather than later.

If you started your period at a relatively young age, did your daughter/s start early too? I'm not sure if there's a 'science' behind it so to speak so just curious!

I was 11 when mine started and my oldest was 15 when she started hers but my second daughter has started hers at 12, my 9 year old looks to be an early developer no periods yet but she's developing breasts and I have a feeling periods won't be far away for her.

RigsbysCat · 28/09/2026 11:37

My mum, me and my older daughter all started our periods at 10. No idea if there was a genetic link to this though. What we all had in common apart from genetics was that we, were all quite tall for our age at 5 feet 2 to 5 foot 4 aged 10.

I was 14, dd1 was 17, dd2 was 12 and dd3 was 15.

I am worried about the same thing. Unfortunately in my case, my mother was 10 and my sister and I were 10 and 11. I really hope my daughters' periods can hang on until a bit later. It was not a fun experience getting them in primary school! (Also mine were like super painful - especially when I was young by some cruel twist of biology. Apparently same for my mother, not sure about sister).

I was 12...dds were 14 and 15

I'm sorry you had such a tough time at a young age and hope for a better experience for your DD!

Looking back now as an adult it's so sad that it started so early on and for me it was the defining moment I remember I stopped feeling like a child. I can only hope my DD has longer 🙁

Nope, I was 10yo, and DD was 14yo.

Yes, I was 11 & 2 months and my eldest DD was exactly the same age!
My mother and grandmother also started at 11.
My younger DD was slightly younger at 10 but she’s very tall for her age so maybe that’s why

NUFC69 · 28/09/2026 12:31

I started mine at 11, just as I began high school, my DD started at 14, and my GD at 13. I'd just make one comment: I've read that the earlier you start, the longer you go on. In my case I didn't stop until I was 57/58.

Tcateh · 28/09/2026 12:35

I was 11.5
Poor dd was 9.5

Very slim and young looking

Ditto for both my DDs and I + mum. Same age and roughly similar heights to you and yours!!

Sadly, I did not keep the height. Stopped growing at about age 12 😭

maryberryslayers · 28/09/2026 13:08

I was 9, I'm hoping poor DD is older! However period underwear and swimming costumes are so clever now that it won't be any wear near as stressful! No changing rustling pads or tricky tampons or worrying about wings showing etc.

Lifewasapillow · 28/09/2026 13:32

Almost 14 for both of us. Slim, but not very active as teens.

Say this isn’t true! Another 10 years potentially 😮

I remember reading that you only grow for a certain time after your periods start, but not sure if that is definitely true. Neither my mum, me or my daughter grew more than another couple of inches. I went from being a tall 10 year old to never making it past 5 feet 5. I was gutted as I'd imagined being tall 😂

Daffodilsinthespring · 28/09/2026 16:50

No. I was 11 so not young. Dd was 12.

HoraceCope · 28/09/2026 16:51

pretty sure we were all 12
