Talk to me about managing periods. Have things moved on in the past 25 years?

I had crappy periods as a teen, but have been in the swing of managing them fairly easily for years. DD is 13 and has sensory issues and low pain threshold. I fear periods are going to be a nightmare.

What’s around these days that I might not be aware of? Both for managing hygiene and pain/nausea/pmt?
Options I’m aware of are disposable or cloth pads, period pants, tampons, menstrual cups. Not sure how teen friendly they all are.
Pain wise just paracetamol and ibuprofen?

Any advice or product recommendations welcome

Period pants are brilliant. Especially for things like sleepovers. My daughter who has sensory issues uses these. She also finds tampons fine now she’s a little older (applicator ones).
I can’t convince her on a menstrual cup even though it was a game changer for me.

Period swimwear, which is definitely newish. Pain wise it is only ibuprofen or paracetamol unless they are really bad, stronger anti inflammatory drugs like Naproxen are available over the counter now at chemists. But DD ended up needing to go on the pill to help with hers. Which is a valid option, the doses of them are lower then they used to be even 10 years ago.

I love period pants. I would always feel sore using pads and tampons, but the pants are great. I only have light periods though, so not sure what they’re like with a heavy flow. But would recommend.

M&S period pants are good.
