Am I missing something about the price of this mirror?

How can a basic, not very large dressing table mirror cost this much?

That is insane! It’s only made from MDF and melamine, nothing about it that’s particularly special.

SerendipityCat · 27/09/2026 13:28

It does seem a tad overpriced, but I had a quick look at the manufacturer's website (One Call Furniture) and it looks like they're regarded as a quality company who actually make everything in the UK.
So, your choice between paying a premium to support a UK manufacturer and buying the usual cheap Chinese shite...?

Really, nearly 300 quid?

I wondered if the price is meant to be £29.99?

It’s not 30 quids worth, I also think over priced, but it costs a lot to manufacture in the uk now, from min wage increases, fuel prices, employer ni etc, it’s all gone up since Labour took over, so now everything costs a small fortune to pay for it, unless you buy Chinese.

FckThisShit · 27/09/2026 13:53

The chest of drawers is only £249 so I think it could be an incorrect price. I'd hope so anyway!

Yeah, all Labours fault!

Can't wait for Nigel to get into power and that mirror will cost £29.99!

Unfortunately a visit to the GP will cost £300.

SerendipityCat · 27/09/2026 14:06

Well, it's academic for me anyway - it's quite some way out of my price range for such a basic item. £50-70 max, maybe?

How did you identify the manufacturer please? I can’t see it on the listing, and wanted to compare with other mirrors listed!

Ohnobackagain · 27/09/2026 14:17

I’d expect that to be a lot cheaper unless made of actual wood @likelysuspect

there is a similar one on the Oak & More site, £99 reduced from £119 and made of solid oak (link won’t paste properly) - wouldn’t pay £299 for MDF/chipboard!

It's in the drop-down menu on the right under "Features".

mondaytosunday · 27/09/2026 14:55

It’s the brand, One Call Furniture , which is a premium brand and they sell matching heavy set bedroom furniture, in similar price range. I like the look of it but of course you can get similar far cheaper - I liked a lighting fixture selling for £450 at Neptune, found an almost identical one for £175. The difference was a premium brand vs a generic one.

TheDevilFindsWorkForIdleMums · 27/09/2026 17:10

All my beds come from the same company (( get laid beds ))

All hand made in the UK, using trees that were raised here, absolutely excellent quality........and that mirror cost £2 more than the bed I've just bought my son. Total rip off !!

QueenietheGreat · 27/09/2026 17:59

@likelysuspect
Do you know if it was crafted by a very religious carpenter?

likelysuspect · 27/09/2026 18:13

Just to add I wasnt looking to buy the mirror it came up on a advert on the side and because of the price I thought it was a light up mirror with a load of fancy electrics, even though it would have been very very expensive for that too, the ones that light up that Im looking at are around 50 quid on Amazon.

So I clicked onto it and was just very very surprised.

Ridiculous price. I bought my last two mirrors on Facebook marketplace - £40 for a fancy full length free standing one that was delivered and £15 for a massive one that is fixed to the wall (had to pick that one up - about 5 miles away). No way would I pay that!

I suppose it depends if you want workers and taxes to be paid.
If you're not bothered about the living conditions of the people who - basically - work for you, then buy for £30 from China 🤷🏼

dogsaremybusiness · 28/09/2026 10:03

Gumtree or FB marketplace are best for this stuff.

Yes, but in melamine!

Lougle · 28/09/2026 10:07

Because it's not just a chipboard frame. It's a chipboard, melamine, and MDF frame.

I sold some pine furniture on eBay last week. It's an old brand called Ducal. No longer trading. The buyer and I were talking about how rare it is to find solid wood furniture these days. It's a bit sad.

Solid wooden furniture is sold at John Lewis, some British made.

Because prices weren't already going up when the Tories were in power were they?...

LowAndSlow · 28/09/2026 13:40

It's just a typo, no need to get your knickers in a twist.

SmallTreeDeepRoots · 28/09/2026 13:41

I wonder how much of the price includes the packaging and shipping for a glass item?
