How can I stop my neighbour repeatedly pushing dog sitting on me

My neighbour started knocking my door around 7 months ago, asking to borrow random things-ie tin foil, a paint brush and so on. We’ve lived next door to each other for about three years, briefly spoken but not huge conversations.

I came home one day, and noticed the front pillar of my house had been freshly painted. How very odd, I thought to myself. A few days later he rang me on Facebook. I didn’t answer to be honest, as I don’t really use messenger for anything other than keeping in touch with a few family members who live abroad. He then knocked my door, asking if I could look after his dog since his sister had let him down, and he was due to go on holiday that evening. I said I’d do it as a one time thing.

All went fine with the dog, I didn’t have plans and so it was no inconvenience. He was only gone a few days and I was happy to help last minute. I then noticed he was bringing my bins in, to which I told him wasn’t necessary. A few weeks later, he knocked again and asked if I’d again look after the dog for a few days. I said I have plans this weekend and wasn’t able to help. He said just let him out before you go and out when you come back, I said I didn’t know how long I’d be out for, to which he said it didn’t matter. I was quite taken aback by how pushy he was to be honest. I said I’d do it once more but that was it.

I came home from work one day, to find he’d taken my delivery in that had been left on my step. No need to really, as everyone has ring doorbells and we live in a pretty ok place. I knocked for my parcel and he again asked for me to watch the dog. This time I said no, as I again had my own plans. He wasn’t happy, gave me my parcel and off I went. I came home the next day to find a key through the door, with a note saying to just “do what you did last time.” I was pissed off by this point. When he came home I told him it was shitty and the next time I’ll call the RSPCA. He said he couldn’t see what the issue was.

This morning, my door goes again. I wasn’t expecting anyone and was about to get in the bath, so didn’t answer. It was him. He then rang again of messenger. I didn’t answer. He has knocked 3 times since then and I have just ignored him. I’ve made it clear and been vocal that I won’t help, yet he keeps trying to push. Apart from point blank refuse like I have done, or bloody move house, what else can I do???

Tight fecker doesn't want to pay for KC vax and boarding kennel.

and then what? He walked off?

Thick as skin as a rhino to be back!

Roosthename · 26/09/2026 17:00

I can’t really answer because I never would have been pushed in to it in the first place!

BriarTime · 26/09/2026 17:01

Hang on, he posted his keys with an instruction despite the fact that you’d told him no?

Dollywasbrunette · 26/09/2026 17:03

Yes he did! I’ve completely blanked him today, to the point he was ringing the doorbell while I was sat on the sofa. His girlfriend then rang me off her messenger, to which I again did not respond.

They’ve gone out now and I’ve seen no one come to check on the dog. God knows what’s happening with him. He’s there though because I’ve heard him barking since they went out.

When you get a chance, push the key back through his letterbox and just blank him in future. If he catches you at any point, don’t stop walking, just say no once and give him no reasons..
You were seriously kind the first two times, never would have happened with me. He’s out of order.

rainbowsparkle28 · 26/09/2026 17:05

Say no in the first instance, don’t answer the door, and if you are aware of him leaving the dog again / posting key and seeming to go, call the police and RSPCA. Until he realises you aren’t kidding he will continue to do it.

ClaudiaNaughton · 26/09/2026 17:06

Poor dog

BriarTime · 26/09/2026 17:07

Are you a woman living alone, OP?

Userengage · 26/09/2026 17:07

I see we cross posted and you did blank him. The dog has nothing to do with you.

ThirdStorm · 26/09/2026 17:08

Omg this is my worst nightmare. Not ok, but then you know this. No no no. Plus a leave me alone now please. Block on messenger also.

Poor dog

Indeed. Some people aren’t good enough to have dogs.

Dollywasbrunette · 26/09/2026 17:08

He’s not posted the key since. I made it clear he’d taken the piss and I don’t think he was expecting me to be as abrupt as I was. I’m always happy to help anyone willing, push it on me though and I’m an extremely different person. The dog doesn’t eat when he’s away either, I had to really coax him last time.

Can’t believe the nerve of him to keep ringing after my response last time.

Maybe he has a package for you?!

Definitely RSPCA. Other than that, if you feel harassed, report to the police.

I don't know why anyone is adding neighbours to their social media - block them.

Dollywasbrunette · 26/09/2026 17:14

@Awkwardisfunny He’s not on my social media. You can ring people on messenger and we’re in the same local area group.

Tell the police he's harassing you? Extreme I know but came to mind..

Lougle · 26/09/2026 17:43

You're going to have to write a letter that says that you don't want him to interfere with your belongings and you are not able to check on, look after, or otherwise supervise his dog.

If they doesn't work, you'll be able to take it further.

Ah okay! Fair enough - yeah, just get them blocked and report harassment via the usual channels. Because this is really odd behaviour.
