Do I tell my hairdresser I've dumped her.....

.....or just not rebook and not reply to her messages?

Back story: she's cut my hair for over 20 years, first in salons and then at home. She's always rescheduling appointments and this time let me down just before I went on holiday. I then had to find someone else to cut my hair who did a great job. She's since messaged me to ask me when I want to reschedule for and I've not read the message (WhatsApp). Do I tell her why I'm not rebooking or do I just ignore her?

Tell her and thank her for her years of service

I've never had the same hairdresser nor salon more than a year or 2, so never had this issue. I'd possibly text that you had to go elsewhere due to her constant rescheduling and letting you down, so she knows the reasons. But really, if she has been that unreliable, she is likely losing other clients and knows she has been scatty- which isn't you problem.

Just tell her you had to book someone else as she keeps letting you down rescheduling but thanks and you wish her well.

Tell her that you don't need to as you luckily managed to get a last minute appointment last time for your holiday and you'll let her know when you need her again

BernadetteJune · 26/09/2026 15:06

You don't owe her. You are at liberty to get your hair done where you choose just like you can shop for groceries where you choose. Just say 'Thank you I managed to get an appointment in time for my holiday so I am fine thank you". She will know from that.

Just tell her you had to book elsewhere as she was unavailable and the new person did a great job so you’re sticking with them.

Just be honest. It’s no big deal.

PruLeithsNecklace · 26/09/2026 15:25

I don’t think you need to reply to her, you’re not planning to rebook and she was unreliable so I’d just leave it, you don’t want her to start pushing back.

CostcoFanofThree · 26/09/2026 15:57

I’d be polite and tactful BECAUSE the new gal might up and move be gone in 6mths time.
I’d not burn any bridges.
My hair is fussy and I’ve gone to the same gal 10+ yrs. Scared spitless to change.

Agree, doesn’t need to be a big thing but this makes clear she lost business

SoThatsTheWayItIs · 26/09/2026 16:32

I would probably ignore (wimp). I’m currently ignoring the dog groomer because she gave Ddog a bad hair do last time.

You could just say “thankfully managed to get in with someone else last minute before my holiday so I’m sorted 👍”

Agree!

She was your hairdresser you are not in a relationship. To her you are probably just a client, not a mate.

I would respond and say you managed to find someone else to do your hair before your holiday and you are going to stick with her because the constant rescheduling was inconvenient. If she is doing this to other clients they may well leave her too.

I have been with my hairdresser for 10 years. We tried a different shade on my hair recently and I didn't like it. I told her at the next appointment, we went back to my original shade I will just need more highlights. She made a note of this that we tried it. She is not upset, or offended. I am a client, not a friend. Do we have a great time chatting? Absolutely, she even says she loves our conversations. But I do not see her socially. I know I am a client but one she likes.

Thanks all - I'm still ignoring her but if she messages again I'll go with thanks but I'm all sorted.
