It says water based and xylene free, freaking out so much. Must’ve been for a couple of minutes while I was changing her sisters nappy, stained tongue and lips, do I need to go to the hospital?!

She’s suspected adhd and autism and it’s my own fault because every time she has pens she draws all over herself so I should know better than to give them her !

She’ll survive, stop being such a drama llama.

Sidebeforeself · 25/09/2026 20:45

Hospital?! Of course not . She’s going to be fine.

Should’ve added I have OCD and anxiety that I’ve been medicated my whole life for, I’m also autistic so my brain don’t work like others and I know it seems daft to normal people

She’ll be fine. Do some deep breathing exercises and try not to worry.

Echobelly · 25/09/2026 20:51

It's fine, no need for hospital.

Melarus · 25/09/2026 20:51

At that age, my DC ate a chunk of rubber tyre off of a soft playground surface. No ill effects. He also helped himself to a fingerful of ant poison that was on the floor of a friend's house. He was fine!

CherryKerry · 25/09/2026 20:52

Manufacturers don't put poison in pens. Forget about it.

mychildiswild · 25/09/2026 21:01

Thank you all, I know I wind myself up and make it worse, wish my brain just didn’t care but I’m like it with everything, have a real thing about contamination.

Not daft but definitely OTT. You even with OCD and anxiety have 2 children. You obviously can deal with day to day issues,a pen that you yourself have said is water based and xylene free is not going to cause issues or it would not be sold. No matter your issues sometimes all it takes is stopping and looking at things in a bit of a logical way and with a bit of critical thought. Mental health issues are a reason not an excuse. This is coming from someone who has multiple issues.

DogAnxiety · 25/09/2026 21:11

Have you had structured CBT with Exposure & Response Prevention for the anxiety and OCD? It could be very useful and should (!) be funded on the NHS given your comorbidities and two young kids.

Could you ask your GP about getting referred for that (alongside the medical management, of course)?

Edited

He had lots of cbt over the years but it doesn’t seem to stick… I was told before that neurodivergent people usually respond better to a different kind of cbt, but can’t remember what it was called now.

Thank you, and of course you’re right.
