Anyone else have puddings instead of a savoury main meal growing up?

Did anyone else grow up with only a pudding as their main meal and no savoury option?
Not every day but when times were hard we would be given crumble and custard, home made fruit pie, bread and butter pudding, rice pudding as our main meal assuming because it was cheap and filing
When times were really hard it was bread and margarine or a jam sandwich
I got a savoury cooked dinner on a Sunday at my grandparents not always a roast sometimes just mince and potatoes or pie and mash but it was the highlight of the week!

I don't particularly see it as weird tbh. We have had pancakes, ice cream and fruit for tea tonight. Sometimes if we have a pack of donuts about to go stale or DD has baked scones or cookies we have them for breakfast. I would rather "use up" calorific food within a mealtime than have it in addition to a meal. Post-school snack is usually savoury though - cheese, crackers and salad or a small sausage roll.

Never understood it right back to weaning the kids. People would say "oh he messes about with his dinner when he's tired..." ok so give him the spag bol / stew / chili at breakfast time when he is more engaged, then? There's no law saying meals have to be served at a particular time or in a particular order.

No we always had a savoury meal. We didn't always have dessert but there was usually ice cream in the freezer.

I would actually have loved this as a child - my mum used to make the most fabulous steamed suet puddings, and the best rice pudding I've ever tasted! No wonder we all had weight problems in adulthood.
The main meals often weren't exactly luxurious (luckily I always liked liver, sausages, mince and the like) but they were always good and filling.
