What did you make of the Sagrada Família from the outside?

Just back from a few days in Barcelona. I really can decide what I thought of the Sagrada Família. We only viewed it from the outside. I was incredibly impressed by it and spent a lot of time looking at all of the detail. The only word I could think of was incoherent. What were other peoples thoughts when they saw it?

We went to Casa Batllo and I absolutely loved it.

Stunning. In a fairly literal sense not a general ‘beautiful and amazing’ sense. It’s so big and such a presence that you need to stop, breath and take it all in.

I had a really strong reaction to the outside when I visited about 3 years ago. The scaffolding was still up but on the approach to it made me feel really uncomfortable and actually quite anxious. I've never had such a reaction to a building before. However, the interior was a completely different story it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever experienced. I'd like to go back now and see how I feel when I see it,

Casa Batilo was incredible too.

I loved it and thought it was beautiful and inspiring. However, I prefer a more traditional gothic cathedral.

Did you wail?! Sorry, couldn’t resist #sistinechapel.
Scaffol was still up when we went so I’ve yet to experience the fully finished version but I found it incongruous within the landscape in the best way

I screamed involuntarily

You beat me to it 😂

I thought for a minute that the scaffolding had come down! It was some years ago that I saw it. I thought it was impressive and it occurred to me that some of the external shapes echoed cactus plants. It all kind of made sense to me what Gaudi had done, once I saw he was echoing the natural environment in some ways.

I'm not on any social media so involuntary scream puzzled me. After searching it the signs as the metro station now make sense. They totally confused me. I couldn't think of a reason that people would put their phones on the escalator.

Saw it years ago, there was still a fair bit of scaffolding around it but it was still quite jaw dropping in an ‘it’s impressively fucking massive’ kind of way! I remember being on the escalator coming up from the subway and seeing it and I did a bit of an inward gasp.
We went inside; I wasn’t especially moved but it’s really magnificent anyway.
