We purchased and started fitting (!!) The wrong Laminate floor shade in both of our reception rooms.

The front reception room is going to be a living room with 2 sofas (oak furniture land selby plush beige) and the walls are Dulux willow tree.

The back reception room is painted Natural Calico and will have a dining table (medium- dark wood) and another plush beige sofa. Our hallway which will also have the laminate is rock salt by dulux, and the stairs will be carpeted grey.

What are your opinions on this laminate. I can't help keep thinking it wasn't our first choice and is too dark and too grey ! It's too late to return, so I will have to live with it (I might buy some big rugs!) Our first choice was a very very light oak laminate.

It doesn't look grey on the photos. I think it will be lovely when it's finished and you have skirting board on etc.

On another note I love willow tree and have had it in two kitchens over the years.

You've done a lovely job op, a lovely job for sure, you must be chuffed, please don't doubt yourself

I must say though, and perhaps it's just me but didn't that green look decent in the before shot - the stuff you laid it on I reckon? A lovely shade of green that. Couldn't you have used that like a carpet?

OneOpalOwl · 25/09/2026 21:33

I like it, it’s not coming up too grey in the pics. I think once you’re furniture is back in and walls are painted you’ll feel better ☺️

Littledidsheknow · 25/09/2026 21:36

It’s really nice. It’s not too dark at all; I think it’s a good shade and wouldn’t have wanted it any lighter.

Floors that are too light show all the dirt, dust and scratches, and detract from the other decor. A good medium wood colour - like you have - is better.

The green Is the Underlay underneath. the 5mm boards from BandQ

Thanks for the reassurance people!

I'm confused- do you mean they delivered the wrong colour or you think you've chosen the wrong one? Is it the same laminate in both pics? Neither looks grey to me.

The green is the underlay 😂

@5289843DM so basically dh and I liked a sample in shop, took note of the sample number and went to a different branch (as first shop didn't have enough) but the ones packaged in the boxes with the code were a different shade in the range! I thought it looked darker at the time, but we are under a tight timescale to fit with furniture deliveries etc. It was only when I went back to get 2 more boxes I realised what had happened
Both photos are now we have fitted the flooring/started to fit it and it's of 2 rooms as we have 2 reception rooms

Kinda looks alright, not grey either. It’s what I’d expect laminate to look like really.

Thesummer · 25/09/2026 23:45

Its a nice colour and as a vehement grey hater, it doesn't look too grey at all to me.

KitDeLuca · 26/09/2026 00:14

It’s a lovely neutral, not too dark at all, it will work well for years with various furniture. I think your issue is the wall colours in both photos. Is that the Natural Calico in the first pic? If so, the flooring is making it look too yellow. And the green in the other shot is what’s making the floor appear grey. If you haven’t painted yet then you may need to test your colours against this floor and go with it. It’s a cooler shade rather than warmer. Rock Salt will be great with it. You may want a richer cool colour on your walls in your main living area so it’s not too stark.

IamConfused12344 · 26/09/2026 00:21

Thanks @KitDeLuca ! I agree re colours, at least painting the walls is a little cheaper than whole new flooring :) I'm hoping once furnished the willow tree will look better with it

Thanks everyone for the reassurance and reassuring me it's not totally awful colouring.

Slight grey tinge is better. Very light, or dark ones show everything, and yellowish clash. I like it.
