What do I want to do on my birthday?

My birthday is coming up soon. For various reasons I have a shit birthday the last two years so this year I want to enjoy myself. Im not one of those people who expects people to guess - Im quite happy to say what Id like ..but I can’t think of anything!

Im fortunate that we go out for nice meals, cinema, theatre quite frequently. We are also going away soon after anyway so a trip away will be a bit pointless. I hate afternoon tea.

Any ideas? Oh and its on a Sunday!

(NB I am well aware this is a nice “problem” to have)

Just have an ordinary day, you are having so many regular treats that they are no longer treats at all by the sound of it. Or do something nice for someone else.

Skydiving?

stay in bed all day and have lots of sex (assuming "we" means you have an OH, if not, I'm sure you can entertain yourself)

Can you say 'surprise me'? Leave it as some else's decision perhaps, you have to be open-minded of course to expect anything!

It’s my birthday soon too.
I’m taking myself off to an “attraction” I’ve not visited for years to have lunch & walk in their estate garden.

Id normally go away but cost of petrol is putting me off so I’m staying more local.

Alternatively, I might catch the bus to go further up the coast than I normally do. Let the bus take the strain, sit upstairs at the front like a kid & enjoy the views id never normally see.

Take photos, talk to strangers, have a lunch or afternoon tea! Small pleasures. Happy days. 😊

The OP asks, "What do I want to do on my birthday?"

And your reply is have sex or a wank? 👀🤣🤣

If the weather is still nice and you live near the sea, how about an evening picnic for you and a few friends/family? A gazebo with fairy lights, some lanterns, music, food and drinks, and some chill music. Or you could do something similar but in a field/back garden and play kids games - egg and spoon, sack race, etc. It’s hilarious after a few drinks. Or you could paint portraits of each other. I did this with a few friends over a couple of bottles of wine and it was one of the funniest evenings of my life. Or you could go to a gig, or a race track and get driven around in an F1car (I think Silverstone and Thruxton run events like these) and you could have a nice lunch before or after.

To be fair, that’s not a bad shout 😁 A good birthday shag is one of life’s greatest pleasures.

To be honest, that would be a perfect start to the day but it had better not take all day!

They are different ideas - thankyou.

It’s likely to be just me and DH on the day as our families are quite far away etc. And Im perfectly happy with that. But yes its a nice time Im after rather than nice presents if you see what I mean

Invite friends then rather than family then?

I'd stick to the garden though as I can't imagine where you'd plot up a gazebo on public land really and it's cold on the coast of an evening.

Bjorkdidit · 25/09/2026 13:30

Extreme day trip (depends on what's available from your local airport).

What time of year is it? Does it have to be on your birthday, could it be on the Saturday before?

Seaside, fish and chips and penny arcade?

Scenic train ride, walk and pub lunch?

Go Ape?

Sidebeforeself · 25/09/2026 13:33

I would like it to be on my birthday as I have had two horrible birthdays in the last two years. I’d like the actual day to be a nice one ( fingers crossed).
Im currently Googling things to do .

I only said that because you said you go out for meals and theatre etc regularly so they aren't special any more.

I have the same problem. Its my 40th coming up and my husband said no to a party. We are short of money and I had a lovely day out at the zoo last year. My birthday is November so you can't count on the weather either. Travel isn't a problem cos we have an electric car. Ks there an attraction nearby that you haven't been to in a long while or how about an afternoon tea out somewhere?
