Anyone seen Micky Flanagan warm up show recently

Went to see Micky Flanagan’s warm up show this week and wondered if anyone else has seen any of his recent shows?

I’ve always enjoyed his comedy, but I came away feeling quite disappointed. A lot of the material was very sexual and vulgar, and there were also some jokes that I felt crossed the line into racism. He also kept saying how angry he is these days. Very strange?

I know comedy can be controversial, but it just wasn’t what I expected from him, having enjoyed his older stuff.

Just curious whether anyone else has seen his recent material and felt the same? Has his comedy always been like this and I’ve just not noticed, or has his style changed?

I haven't seen his current warm up tour but did see him a couple of years ago when he did his last tour.

We'd seen him several times before and really enjoyed the shows - they are quite near the knuckle in places but that's what he's like.

However the last tour just felt very flat. We did laugh a couple of times but not the crying with laughter that we'd been like previously. It just felt very forced and as we were leaving I overheard a couple talking and they agreed he wasn't as funny as when they'd seen him before.

I don't think I'd bother going to see him again

I think the problem with comedians like Micky Flanagan and Peter Kay is that they trade off of their working class roots and upbringing, they're relatable and that's what makes them so funny, but with success and time they become removed from that, and they're not the kind of surreal.or cerebral comedians who can make a joke out of anything, they find humour in what they see and live. They do realise that their new lives don't land with the audience in the same way so either try and branch out and it doesn't work or they rehash old tropes and it's not as funny the 4th time around.

I would say I saw Micky when he was fairly unknown and that was pretty near the mark. His live stuff is always going to be more adult than the stuff you see on TV

I saw a warm up show two years ago and thought it was mainly meh, with a couple of bright moments. I don’t think he gives a fuck anymore.

Funniest comedian I ever saw was Bob Monkhouse 😁. It was back in the late 80’s and he was bloody hilarious from start to finish.

Went to see his last tour maybe two or three years ago now, it was great but quite a short set for the price.
He’s always been vulgar though.

Someone mentioned Peter Kay above and I agree that these working class lads tire quickly.
I was in the O2 watching Peter Kay scoffing at Londoners rushing out to get the last tube instead of paying for a cab and staying on to the very end. Yeah cos that’s cheap and accessible to most Londoners 🙄

Is a warm up show like a work in progress? Different to a warm up act?

StillInMyPJJs · 24/09/2026 21:55

@TofuTuesdayIt’s basically a chance for comedians to test out new material before going on tour, see which jokes get laughs and which don’t

Ah thank you , I’ve seen some of those didn’t know that was the name for it.

I saw him and thought even though it's a warmup show the type of vulgarity he used wasn't worth it. Also he's looking older now which is fine but when such vulgarity comes out of an older person's mouth it doesn't sit right. He does have the talent but needs to take a good look at himself in some ways.

StillInMyPJJs · 03/10/2026 17:00

@maisydaisy20It was very strange wasn't it! I don't recall him being like this during other shows in previous years? Did he keep saying he was angry when you saw him also?

Can highly recommend Scott Bennett if you’re looking for an alternative. More about family life but very quick and funny.

This is a very good explanation

@StillInMyPJJs yes he did keep saying he was angry. I don't know if he really is angry, walking around in his big house, or if he's just using it as a structure to hang his jokes around.

Sorry, what?

At what point in life do we have to start behaving as your expected idea of old?

You can not like vulgarity without ageism.

Yay!! I have offended someone! Micky would be proud.

Yes I guess, but then I'm not sure being unfunny, off the mark and vulgar is something to celebrate. But you do you.

AgentPidge · 04/10/2026 13:25

Tastes change. What was funny a few years ago might be seen as poor taste now.
The last comedian I saw was Tim Minchin. He was so witty and clever without swearing all the times me. See also Bill Bailey. Billy Connolly used to make me cry with laughter but I suspect that some of his stuff wouldn't be PC these days.

Recently went with our teen to see Bradley Walsh, Brian Conley, Joe Pasquale & Shane Ritchie in what we expected to be a “crooners” type musical show, with the odd joke thrown in (advertised as the “Brat Pack”), sadly their attempts at “humour” was very crude, sexist in a 1970’s fashion and extremely unfunny.

We left as as soon as we could get out of the theatre (half time) & we were very disappointed.

Our teen couldn’t understand why they even thought their act would be appropriate or funny?

There were a lot of elderly people in the theatre who seemed to be laughing and enjoying it?

SamuraiSally · 04/10/2026 15:04

Went to see Micky Flannigan in the west end a couple of years ago. Was really disappointed tbh.

He seemed low energy and was mostly talking about taking drugs at home in his mansion. I kept waiting thinking it will get going soon, but it never really did. He just wasn't that funny or relatable.

It absolutely seemed like he was going through the motions and collecting the pay cheque.

Sad but he just looked old and tired.

lookatmylife · 04/10/2026 15:42

He’s always been like this IMO. The only stand up I saw (on tv) was sexist and racist. He’s deeply unfunny.
