I'm wondering what opinions are whether I'm correct in asking for a partial refund/store voucher or not.
So DH & I had settled on a laminate flooring shade seen in a large DIY retain chain. It was a warm wood colour. When we went in there next (to purchase the laminate) whilst wondering the aisles I spotted a lighter shade of laminate, named light natural. Looking on the barcode, this had barcode ending say for example ABC (last 3 digits). Looking up this barcode on the website, it also had barcode ending ABC for "Light natural". So, because this particular shop did not have enough of that laminate we needed to go to a different branch.
The next branch did not have any of this laminate or samples out, so we asked a chap for code ending "ABC" (giving him the full code!) (stock totalling £1000 for 2 reception rooms and a hallway) . When he brought the laminate out on the trolley, I did say to DH it looked a bit darker/greyer than in the other shop. We put it down to just different shop lighting. So, anyway we bought it (!!), took the laminate home and we are on a tight deadline, so we started laying it in one reception room.
When we came to the end of that room , it was clear we would need a pack or two more, so I head back up to our original shop, where we saw the samples.
Walking to the laminate which we had just laid at home, (the more grey looking one) I look at the barcode/sample code (on the sample for OUR laminate flooring) and the code is different, lets say AAA. Looking at the boxes underneath, it's our laminate colour packaged in boxes labelled ABC Light natural.
I then got confused, walked down the next aisle which then had our sample we preferred, and of course the sample is on that one is ABC, with the boxes labelled AAA. When I look up this code online (AAA) it says its a grey oak.
The sample codes on the website, for the Light Natural Product Sample says the corresponding product is ABC.
To summarise and confirm, although I know it's confusing
Light Natural Laminate (the one we wanted) - On product sample instore the barcode said ABC, on box said AAA, on website said ABC. (we only checked sample and website, not the boxes underneath!)
Light grey laminate (the one we got , by mistake) - On sample said AAA, on box says ABC, on website says AAA. . Box even calls itself Light Natural.
Online samples - light natural laminate - says corresponding product is ABC
So now we are in the situation where we are bound to keep the wrong laminate shade as we have already laid it in one room. Due to the mix up being stemmed from the sample code and website code being wrong, shall I approach said retailer with all of the above with pictures from the shop and their website and the boxes, and request a store voucher or something ? or is this something just to chalk up to experience and ALWAYS CHECK BOX BARCODES (!!!) I think if it was a smaller sum I would not be so annoyed it's just £1000 across 2.5 rooms!
if youve stuck around and read the whole thing thank you !
