Any women had a hernia?

I have a pain low down tonthe side of my tummy, just above my hip bone. I thought initially just a muscle strain, but 4/5 weeks on it's no better (or worse).

I know I need to make GP appointment, but interested in other's experience. I know lots of men who've had their hernia repaired, but think it think it's less common in women?

Or, what else might it be?

My hernia was huge and very obvious, it was above my belly button, but didn't cause any pain

It's a no but a friend did response.
She trained a lot. Wasn't away from the gym long, so a positive story I guess.

Same here. Mine was a consequence of pregnancy. Popped out a few years later when I was throwing the ball for the dog. Had it repaired without a problem. ( Day surgery.)

I had an inguinal hernia when I was 39. There was no doubt about what it was, it could be seen and felt. The repair was completely straightforward and it's still intact 23 years later. I suspect that with the rationalisation of NHS surgery on cost grounds I'd have had to leave it or have it repaired privately nowadays.

You may be offered an ultrasound scan to check the diagnosis.

Are you pregnant? It’s more common in pregnancy as your muscles in that area are so weakened. I got one above my pubic bone during pregnancy when my eldest ran into me.

The doctor said it wouldn’t go away on its own and referred me for surgery. However as soon as I gave birth it seemed to go! That was two months ago and I’ve not felt it since.

Sadly yes, was pushing a wheelbarrow out the back and Shirley (who lives about a mile away) asked me to move some compost and I did but on the last bag I felt something come out, awful. Shirley and her husband then had to push me in the wheelbarrow back home and he twisted his ankle. This was back in the heatwave (June)
