What could your current house budget buy in London and some of the UKs cheapest areas?

Just for fun really.

Take the appropriate value of your current house, briefly describe it, and then find what you could buy for the same price in:

1. London (let's say zone 2 or less to be precise)
2. best value place you can find in the UK

The rules are that the house has to fit you in it - so if you have 2 children in a 3 bed semi now, then your London place must be 2/3 bed, even if that means it's a hovel. Obviously the other house can be bigger, because spare rooms are fine.

My current house
Approx £400k value, 3 bed 1920's semi with driveway and front and back garden. Second reception room (study), lounge diner, pretty large kitchen, 1 bathroom, small conservatory, decent size garden. 110 square metres.

Mine is a 3 bed semi 1920s, 280k I think

So zone 2 south London this appears to be the only one not for auction or shared ownership

1-bed ex-council flat in London or a newish 4-bed detached house with a double garage in a cheap part of the country. Not thinking of moving though.😂

I’m always surprised at how cheap some areas of London seem to be. Not zone 2 but places well served by quick links to central London.

I live in Scotland in a souped up terrace that would have been the equivalent of council housing in the mid-1930s which we have converted from a 2 to a 4 bed. It’s probably worth £500-£600k. I don’t think that’s cheap but there was a thread I saw today with a 2 bed flat for £250k in Woolwich and there are lots of areas where I live where you’d get no more space than that flat for the same money.

I mean my family is from Camberwell and surrounds, as well as other parts of London so, Im not aghast at Camberwell!!

I used to live in a 3 bed ex-council maisonette in a very concretey estate in Battersea. Wasn’t pretty but it was a fab flat, great sized rooms and the location was amazing. 2 minutes to Battersea Bridge, happy days.
