AI taking over in my place of work (not AI generated title!)

AI is taking over in my place of work. Not only is AI taking over our actual jobs, but increasingly everything we write has to be ran through AI before we send it, so I no longer receive emails written by actual people. Example is my boss constantly sends AI messages and they sound nothing like how he actually speaks and expresses himself. Often these emails are not checked so actually full of errors which Claude or Co pilot just made up. Then you have to respond in the same AI language.
My appraisal this year was written using AI and again lots of things included just made up of AI and clearly manager had not checked before submitting to me to read.
If you say something against AI, you are seen as negative and “not embracing change”.

Of course I won’t be there for much longer as AI will take our jobs within a year anyway.

Just wanted an AI moan. All feels so dumb and demotivating.

My workplace isn’t as bad as this but we are under a lot of pressure to use AI and my boss is obsessed with it. For the most part, it’s still more effort than it’s worth especially when it comes to drafting documents and emails. My boss is always telling us to use it to draft briefings or papers or emails but it’s more time to review it and then correct everything it gets wrong and make it sound normal than it is to write it from scratch.

I agree with this.
we are being pushed to use AI all the time.
it’s great for cleaning up a spreadsheet or telling me a formula, but when I ask it to write stuff for me I usually have to rewrite it I can tell when people haven’t.
It does give me a head start though in suggesting how I structure a report or presentation.

I’ve also used it to trace my family tree - it’s been pretty good at that.

I use it all the time for work - accountant. It literally does all my spreadsheets for me and then they just need a bit of tweaking. It has been life changing - what would take a full day can be done in an hour. I have way more free time - I coudl take on more clients but I prefer the freetime. I love it as was fed up with doing them myself. I am much more productive though. I don't draft written letters with it though. It is good at that though. Like for homework if your kid scans in a load of homeworks they have done them self and asks it to do their home work for them in their style it does and really funny same spelling mistakes, no capital letters and no full stops. So I think I will put in some of my own writing and ask Claude to draft like me. We are in a legal dispute though and sometimes get letters that are so obviously written by Chat or Claude because the phraseology is so obvious and also they use words like 'limb' for elements of a project which noone real would do.

Interesting. If you have pre-job market DC, what would you advise them to do?

Either get brilliant at using AI or do a practical job - hospitality, care, trades. Driving will go in next 10 years with automated vehicles.

Also AI will kill the internet initially because it is refreshing as it does not have ads...... but it will.... and when it does and you get pushed the sponsored info it will be even less reliable. I think that will be the case within 5 years. It will probably take longer to kill us all though... maybe 20 years...

The breathless enthusiasm of senior managers reminds me of the introduction of electronic whiteboards: Prometheus , anyone? The HT of one school I taught in required the EB to be used in every lesson, and they could be seen going up and down the corridors making sure we complied. Needless to say there were few EBs in the school so you could never develop your skills in using one. Oh, and the feckers had to be re-calibrated every lesson.

I’ve missed out the obvious objection. An EB is simply not needed for a lot of lessons. We weren’t allowed this option.
