Tonight is my first night, and I’m staying another one. Travelling for work and happy to walk around :)

Looking for dinner recommendations for dinner tomorrow, breakfast on Friday, and something to do tomorrow afternoon and Friday early after.

National Museum of Scotland - see Dolly the Sheep! Botanic Garden, Britannia? Avoid the uni areas, freshers have just arrived.

These would have been my top 3 suggestions also !
Mary King’s Close, Carlton Hill and Holyrood.
Didn’t rate the whisky experience tour.

Edited to add : If you go to the National Musuem , and you really should, it’s amazing - don’t miss the Millenium Clock .

There's a great little Korean restaurant Bibimbap that's worth a visit. They do a gluten free menu too. And across the street from them is Stack and Still which does pancakes, they also cater for gluten free, vegans etc.

Grassmarket. There's a great waffle / pancake place. Its got red wooden windows and doors and at the end theres a steak and mussels place.

Edinburgh Larder, just off Royal Mile, but book. I went in for breakfast, even just their toast and butter was the best ive eaten.

If the weather ends up being nice on Friday, I’d consider a walk along the water of leith from Stockbridge, through dean village and ending at the modern art galleries. If you don’t have one near you at home, Dishoom would be my breakfast choice

BirdIsBoredOfFlying · 16/09/2026 21:17

Greenwoods on Frederick street is also great for breakfast and have a look at Noto for dinner

Bridesmaiddespair · 16/09/2026 21:19

Pickles if cheese and wine is your thing!

National Museum/Grassmarket/churchyard and Bobby statue - all close together. Arthur's Seat offers fantastic views. If you're West End based, Dean's Village is walkable and nice, you can walk on Stockbridge from there.

If you're near Haymarket, Pomo Pizzeria is nice and good. Also, does pasta, salads. I'd pre-book though. I stayed west of Haymarket last year and felt safe walking around 12 mins to this place.

Dr Neil’s garden, the meadows, the zoo, lauriston castle, portobello beach, crammond beach, water of leith path, Lane 7, bonnie & wild, carlton hill, whisky experience on the mile- contrary to the previous person, i actually enjoyed it! Camera obscura, dynamic earth, all the museums, all the parks/hills, leith community croft, the biscuit factory- venue for pop ups, twelve triangle bakeries, lannan bakery, the walnut- food, krema bakehouse, the never really here bar, the newsroom bar & food, a drink in the balmoral or the hawksmoor. So many options not listed but you only have one day so just wander and see

Breakfast/brunch ‘Em’s Kitchen’ on St Mary’s Street, it’s gorgeous https://emskitchen.co.uk/

Royal College of Surgeons on Nicolson Street, really interesting!

National Museum is my top contender for Friday :)

And go up to the roof to get a great view of the castle.

Stayinganontoday · 17/09/2026 19:59

Thanks for all your recommendations! I went to the museum today and the cemetery with the doggie. I also bagged myself a Strathberry (pun intended!) So we’ll see what tomorrow brings

Camera Obscura fun thing to do in the evening

Igneococcus · 17/09/2026 20:13

My ideal Edinburgh trip involves breakfast at Ante, lunch at Mara's Picklery, dinner at the Palmerston, ice cream from either Basement Gelatos or Joelatos and I'll take a miche from 12 Triangles home with me.
