Shake n Vac must have wrecked thousands of hoovers. I absolutely loathed the smell - I knew Mum had been using the ruddy stuff the moment I walked in the house after school!

"Also kills flies."

Sheila - the first Australian perfume. It was a hoax. The perfume didn't exist. I remember this in detail. The ads featured a bottle of perfume with a glass stopper that had tiny glass, "corks" hanging from it, like an Aussie bush hat.

Google is sketchy on the correct details of this but I know it happened.

It was just after, "Crocodile Dundee" came out when Australia was having a bit of a moment, media wise, with not only that film but with Neighbours, Home And Away, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, INXS, and so on.

I can't even find an image on Google for it because it's from 1989 and there is no digital image, allegedly.

Also, the internet claims that the ads were only on bus shelters in London. This cannot be true because I grew up in Lancashire and had never been to London in 1989. Also, my mum's friend wanted some of the perfume and believe me, Sheila, (the friend) did not visit London.

Because the lady loves Milk Tray

Watch out, watch out, there's a Humphrey about

Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet

Not a slogan as such, but a line from the advert....Were you truly wafted here from Paradise? No mate, Luton Airport

Oh, and one of my faves.....With mash get Smash (the little aliens peeling potatoes)

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 16/09/2026 17:41

"Now hands that do dishes can be soft as your face...Mild Green Fairy Liquid"
Rather gendered.

rollypollly · 16/09/2026 17:45

Aunty Beryl... the dog and duck down the High Street

I remembered this as WHEN you are drinking Barcardi but watching it just now it's IF you are drinking Bacardi.
