Two Lancashire related ones:

"You'll only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley"
"Accrington Stanley? Who are they?"
"Exactly."

Milk Marketing Board.

"Call Eileen Bilton on..."

Warrington Runcorn Business Park. Eileen Bilton didn't exist either, much like Sheila perfume and indeed, the book, "Fly Fishing" by JR Hartley.

@Redheadedstepchild

You may know this already but they created and sold a book called Fly Fishing by J R Hartley after that ad because it became so popular.

Cotopaxi · 16/09/2026 17:59

NUTS! Whole hazelnuts! Cadburys take 'em and cover 'em in chocolate!!!

Everyone's a fruit and nut case.

What has a hazelnut in every bite?
all together now, but the real answer is Topic😂

No idea why all mine are chocolate and nut-related.

Just looked up the JR Hartley actor and his name was Norman Lumsden (1906 -2001). RIP

Ariel I think 🤔

Redheadedstepchild · 16/09/2026 18:05

"When it comes to sitting we leave the others standing" I think this was for DFS, fine three piece suite merchants of Doncaster.

I never quite understood how this worked as a tagline. "To leave someone standing" means that you've ran away from them, surely? It's from horse racing isn't it?

So sitting is the opposite of running away? Am I missing something?
It's a joke, I know but...

When you've left the others standing, you win by a mile because you are better than they are. That's the gist of it really.

My mum bought that book. She truly believed it was genuine. Between her and her mate Sheila lusting after the clearly fake Australian perfume they were easily taken in.
