So many cities have gone downhill since COVID. But which is the worst?

I was shocked to find tents in the underground exit tunnel in London. We were going to a London museum and it was mid morning. A couple of people were having a loud aggressive slanging match and there was litter everywhere. Not exactly welcoming for tourists.

Oh dear God, I read that quickly as a loud shagging match. And thought you meant that in the entrance of the tube station two homeless people in a tent were having a loud love making session with zero care for passing commuters and really giving it their all!!!

No, it's not racist to notice that modern Britain is not the same as 1940s Britain.

It is racist to use racist, dog-whistle phrases like "their values reflected in the environment they create around themselves."

It’s a statement of fact. Whoever complained about my earlier post, I suggest they take it up with the Indian nationals who made the observation about demographic change here.

What do you think makes a town English? It’s not just a word. It’s the people, the culture and their history.

If you import millions from other continents and wholesale change the demographic of a town, of course the town becomes Asian rather than English. Despite the polite, and initially well-meaning fiction, people do not suddenly change culture and become part of another one quickly. The ancient world had it right, generalising on three generations - that’s assuming there is actually any will to integrate, and of course in many cases there is not. In many cases more people are arriving here because there is a large group of their own culture that they can be part of, it’s not a foreign country anymore.

I think the Spanish fishermen of Benidorm will agree with you, given the changes there!
