Safari recommendations from Nairobi for a mother and adult daughter

I'm lucky and have a 10 day break booked in Nairobi early November. Has anyone done a safari from there? Looking for advice and suggestions about how to book and what to look out for. Just me and my adult daughter and looking for something not too spendy if possible. TIA

You can do a safari in Nairobi National Park right on the edge of town. It's famous for being the closest national park to a city and you can see the animals with the Nairobi skyline in the distance. Very easy and common to do - just book a driver and go online to get your ticket in advance to save time. There's lots to do in Nairobi too. Look up Sheldrick Trust (baby elephant rescue centre) and the Giraffe Centre (also about conservation and wildlife protection). Have a look on Tripadvisor - lots of options.
If you're looking for a longer safari break, Tsavo, Amboseli and the Mara and the popular choices, but Samburu is also amazing (if quite a bit further). I love Nairobi and Kenya in general - hope you enjoy it.

Thank you - the choices seems amazing and it's almost as if there is too much choice. lol. Have you an operator you have used that was good?

For my time in Nairobi I've used Max of Safaris by Max. Really lovely and knowledgeable man, he worked out a couple of days in Nairobi and drove us round - including a half day safari in the national park (very reasonable price). I'm sure he or his firm could work out longer safari trips for you in the various parks around the country. His tripadvisor and company website are here: https://safarisbymax.com

If you are going to Nairobi, you really must book a night at Giraffe Manor if you can. It is an extraordinary place and worth the money.

It is expensive no lie but it is the sort of exceptional travel memory that stays with you for life. Even if it is the borderline of what is affordable for you, it is honestly worth trying to stretch to it because most people won't go back to Nairobi and it is a great experience.

Second the giraffe manor comment. My favourite travel memory - and I've been to some pretty amazing places!

this place is lovely - overlooks Nairobi national park. Says for families but I wouldn’t say so. The park is good but you don’t get that sense of space you get in the safari areas - there’s a massive train bridge bifurcating it now so you can’t fully escape man!

I would do some research into the areas pp mentioned as you will see different things. I have only been to the Maasai Mara in Kenya but I’d like to go to Amboseli. They have the big tuskers and views of Kilimanjaro

We did a safari from Nairobi with my three teenage kids and had a fantastic time. We used Beyond the Plains Safaris, a local Nairobi operator, and the whole experience was very well organised. With 10 days, I’d suggest keeping it to the Masai Mara and perhaps one other park rather than trying to fit in too much. November should be a great time to go.
