Inspiration for nice food to buy from M&S for weekend in UK holiday cottage? We’re having one dinner out so really looking for lunches and snacky bits and nice breakfasts…. Any ideas?

My local big food hall does hot rotisserie chickens which are really good - those with some salad and crusty bread for a lunch would be great.

I wish I'd never been switched onto their Big Daddy bites (pistachio and chocolate, kind of dubai style?) as they've absolutely ruined me. Ditto the chocolate bars that are dupes of the ones Thorntons used to do back when they were good. My two favourites are the Alpini style and the cappuccino one.

You're not getting many actual food recommendations here 🤣

If the weather's cold enough I'd have their chicken pie and mash, just the stsndard version, it's lovely. Their gastro pub cauliflower cheese is nice too.

Then a massive trifle and the tubs of mini treats.

@mymswashing fancy sharing the recipe please? I too was disappointed when I took a trip last week and the gingerbread cookies were sold out. It was a 45 minute drive so not like I could pop back!

Chicken ceaser dip - when I get sick of eating it with crisps I spread it on toast.
Pistachio and shortbread clouds.
The 4 cheese sauce with bacon added is amazing for mac and cheese.
Best ever chicken tikka masala is the best ever.

Chocolate and Coconut Lamingtons are brilliant. Nobody else in my family like coconut so I get both!

Chocolate covered bourbons and white chocolate covered custard creams. Sublime.

The Pitta chips once you start you can’t stop trust me it’s a slippery slope!

The website is horrific but I used the Jane's Patisserie recipe with good success to get me through the trauma of the switch to peppermint and dark chocolate last December, I'm sure they're lovely but just not on when you're hoping for the ginger ones.

I used a mix of white chocolate chips and crystallised ginger because I had some to use up and I thought it would be nice, which it was. For your own protection, you can freeze some of the uncooked dough for later.

I like the look of those but they seem so expensive for two relatively small not particularly fancy cakes.

I keep thinking I should make my own but the whole dipping in chocolate and rolling in coconut thing is the sort of faff that I hate doing, same for making things like breaded chicken.

Their Big Mix box of chocolates are far superior to Roses and Quality Street. the variety is wonderful. I second their chocolate bars as well.

The rhubarb teacakes, the brown soda bread from the bakery and the wholemeal bread pre sliced from the bakery - the one that has 'you deserve butter' on the side. All gorgeous .
