Where do they find these people?

Like any game show, you can be shouting what seems like an obvious answer at the screen when the contestant doesn’t know. I was however somewhat amazed at the Welsh lady on Gogglebox saying that the Leaning Tower of Pisa was in Paris and that she didn’t know that Paris was the capital of France.

Saying daft things when you’re anxious, being observed and put on the spot isn’t new!

I don't know what opthalmology is nor can I spell it. I have a degree in English literature from the University of Cambridge.
I do know CS Lewis obviously but I can understand the mix up with the two initials. I don't know if this was multiple choice or you just had to know?
I know the Royal Mile because I have been to Edinburgh but it wouldn't astound me if anyone didn't.
We all know different things. I would be absolutely useless at sport, current music, science. I am excellent at literature, history and to a certain extent geography.

Plus presumably you wouldn’t choose to go on a show and reveal your ignorance.

Because some people not knowing something represents a nation. And that’s pretty much the laziest generalisation of the morning. Are all Scots like that? Or just those with an inferiority complex?

I know they are all drunk but the questions are so easy and not all of them are that young.
There's a man and woman who are on a lot and they can't answer the most basic general knowledge questions but all the comments are like "I love you guys!" "You guys are legends!"
It's all quite depressing.

I have no idea who wrote the great literary masterpiece called 50 Shades of Grey, nor have I seen the movie.
If I have to take a wild guess under pressure, who knows what I might have said

um no, they got almost all of them wrong.

and the question was not ‘who wrote fifty shades of grey.’ The question was ‘which author wrote a book that featured the pub, The Three Broomsticks’ and there were three authors on the multiple choice.
