You have little interest in having the same rights as man? In being able to get a mortgage in your own name? In being able to insist on being paid the same as a man in an equivalent post? In being able to say no to your husband if he wants sex? In being able to vote?

The initial work she did was groundbreaking however in recent years she was captured and believed a man could be a woman, so not a feminist.

That’s so condescending. Poor little woman couldn’t understand what I understand. She’s a towering intellect. She’s allowed her own views and has earned them. Whether or not you (or I) agree.

I don't even begin to understand this comment. The core of feminism is equality. How can you have 'very little interest' in equal pay, equal employment rights, equal political rights etc. etc. etc?

She lost me over her comments about all the women who said Bill Clinton raped or sexually assaulted them. This was in the late 1990's. Later she back pedalled a bit after it damaged her reputation.

Germaine Greer has said some dreadful things and Naomi Wolf has gone batshit. I'd still expect MN to be interested and in awe of their early bravery.

She spoke up and out about FGM well into her 80s. But, yep, not a feminist it seems.

Look she was 92 years old. She was bound, in that time to have different options to others and to have made mistakes. That doesn’t mean she was not absolutely influential and amazing for the things she did and said for women.

Anyone who thinks she should have been perfect, is rather silly.

It was never a BBC series just broadcast by them. It was made by FX.

She was part of a movement that really did change the status quo. We are living as we are living today as a direct consequence of the movement in the 70s onwards. Life before it was really different for women and the change didn’t just organically occur.

With regard to the trans issues. Yes GS seems to have become part of the ‘TWAW’ alliance but perhaps it was worth her agreeing with them in theory rather than being cancelled and all her hard work being put into question (like JK). I feel it was strategic. I am sure she knew what a woman was, after all her work on reproductive rights. She just wanted to be able to carry on working for the greater good of women in her later years without being villainised. We know she was a woman, fighting for women.

All what? The examples I gave were, yes, things feminism got us. But if you think men and women are treated equally in society then you aren’t looking very closely. Plus some people want to take those things we won back - what will you do then? Feminism is absolutely still needed.

Neither JKR or Germaine Greer have succumbed to the trans activists probably because they don't live in the US.

I find it utterly puzzling and incredibly disappointing how somebody such as Steinem could have fought incredibly hard and vocally in a oppressive and restrictive climate of the 1960’s and 1970’s and then apparently take complete and utter leave of her senses and welcome misogynists into the fold with open arms. She did not represent me as a woman.

Thankfully people such as JKR, Martina Navratilova, Sharron Davies and the truly wonderful Germaine Greer have remained authentic, truthful and fought at great personal cost to themselves. I for one am very grateful to them.
