What's your thoughts on reserving seats on train ?

Seen two rows about this, this year already

First time an older man, told a lady with a small child she was in his seat there was plenty of other seats at the time so she grumpily told him can't you just sit there....

Then today two families were on a train, a load of woman came on in hen party and wanted getbthe families to leave,As they had reserved the seats, they refused to move, then a staff member came along asked them to move but the staff member also told the she couldn't force the to move.
One of the hens started shouting we've paid for these seats
And one of the family people said we've paid for our seats too
There where no other seats for them to move to so the families didn't move due to small children

But of an awkward train journey as they just kept saying things
An hours journey

Doesn't seem to really work that well

true but without a reservation there is no pint even looking for one.

Whether its trains, planes or coaches, if I've booked a seat, I expect to sit in it. I once had a huge row with a train passenger during rush hour, Bristol to London, when he refused to move from my reserved seat, until other passengers shamed him into giving it up. I'd paid a lot extra for that seat! He claimed he'd paid for an annual season ticket so was entitled to sit where he wanted.

I meant just starting to film the interaction might make them move (as they wouldn’t know if you had a big social media following or not)

They were “asleep”, not dead.

I had upgraded myself to first class coming back to London from Edinburgh. The upgrade included free coffee and sandwiches. Halfway there the train was filled by passengers whose train had broken down. The poor attendants were driven crazy trying to get coffee and sandwiches to the first class passengers. And they had massively over catered for some reason so kept bringing more sandwiches round.

Whenever people have been sat in my seat (many times) they have moved when asked except once and then I found the guard to make them move

I had reserved a seat on a 6am train. It had 5 carriages with around 4 people in each. I walked through the carriage to find my seat which was the only one with a reserved ticket. A woman was sitting in it who claimed she 'hadn't noticed". Unbelievable!

My friend once politely asked 2 football fans to move out of her reserved seats. They refused so she asked again. Still refused. Eventually she said "Will you get to fuck out of our seats". They moved.

I'm not sure this is what are my thoughts on reserving seats on trains, which is a sane thing to do

Hmm. But seat-nickers don’t mind a carriage full of folks seeing them be CFs. I can’t think they would mind on the off chance that someone they know might randomly see them
on social media being a bit of a CF.

Not that it matters, if I've had the foresight to book my seat. Nothing to stop anyone else doing likewise.

Which train company is this? Cos I have booked seats for free on LNER and GWR.

I only ever travel on Scotrail and LNER and don't have to pay to reserve seats.

I’ve never ever had to pay extra to reserve seats, and I travel by train frequently. Usually LNER, Grand Central, and EMR.

Plymouth to Cardiff has never had any refreshments when I've done that journey. it's over three hours. That's the GWR direct service.

I agree with this.

The train companies should not be charging for a service if they are not prepared to enforce it.

You should be asked to move and if you don't you either get off at the next stop or you get a £100 fine

Exactly! It’s easy to do, and usually free.

So what is the point? Remove the service if it isn't enforced.

My train (with reserved seat) was cancelled, so then of course the next one had few free seats. I sat in one and hoped for the best but would have moved if needed x

Many, many travellers will respect it without enforcement, so it’s still worth making a reservation.

That’s crap then. It’s the King’s Cross to Hull I get. Always get sandwiches. I can’t remember what company it is.

Actually I said the wrong way round, there's a couple of direct trains a day from Cardiff to Plymouth but you need one change the other way round. At least that's how it was last time I did it.
