Do you face the shower or turn round while washing your hair?

I face the shower to start off with, turn round to rinse out shampoo, then back again to rinse out conditioner.

DH says he doesn't know what he does. What do you do?

I face away and feel like anyone facing the shower must be some sort of maniac 😂

managingexpectations · 31/08/2026 01:59

I rotate like I’m on a spit!
start off facing to wash face etc and get hair wet,
back to the water to rinse hair off then face the water for a final rinse.

A sideways person! Do you also stand sideways when you're away from home?

yes 🤣 I’ve no idea why and I’d never thought about it until you asked!

beaglescurleduplikebagels · 31/08/2026 08:47

I never ever face the shower except for right at the end when I wash my face and rinse my hair just before I get out. Otherwise surely you get water and soap all in your eyes and face?!

springintospring26 · 31/08/2026 09:06

I face away. I’d noticed that men tend to face forward

comeoncolleen · 31/08/2026 09:09

Facing the shower so my face gets a good woosh of clean water.

ICantStomachWhelks · 31/08/2026 09:14

I’m an upside downer too. Facing the shower but bent forward. I have curly hair and it’s great for curl formation and root volume.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 31/08/2026 09:17

I rotate, depends on what is needing attention. 😅

2chocolateoranges · 31/08/2026 09:18

I face the shower to wash my body then face away from shower when washing my hair.

I face the shower but with my head upside down to wet my hair, then turn around to shampoo with my head still down. Turn around again to rinse. Repeat for a second shampoo if doing or conditioner. I face away when washing my body then face it again with head upside down to rinse the conditioner out, wrap hair in a towel and then face the shower to wash my face. I am surprised I don't get dizzy with all the tooing and froing

I’m another upside-down hair washer whether I’m in the shower or doing it over the side of the bath. A hangover from being a seventies child who had to wash my hair with a jug, probably. It never feels clean if I do it standing straight up with my hair hanging down in the usual direction.

But surely no one in their right mind washes their hair with a fixed head shower if they can help it?

Well if you're away from home in a hotel or conference centre or wherever, often a fixed head shower is what you get.

Hence the ‘if they can help it’! We’re very picky about hotel bathrooms nowadays, hate the increasing number of places which only have showers and no bath. But that’s a whole other thread.

Gatehouse77 · 31/08/2026 10:57

Here's my breakdown 😂

Face away, standing right under, to wet hair and face.
Small step forward to wash face.
Face away to rinse.
Face shower to shampoo hair.
Face away to rinse.
Face shower to apply conditioner.
Wash body by standing slightly forward and turning so maximum body is under the water whilst washing each side.
Face away to rinse conditioner.
Stand right under to do final rinse of body.
Face away to squeeze water out of hair and final rinse of face.

I turn the water off for all shower-related tasks including shampooing then blast it back on again. My family thinks this is weird.

Oh I do this too. Get wet all over. Turn shower off so I can apply soap or shower gel and shampoo. Turn water on again. Rinse every bit of me. Turn water off. Put on conditioner and wait a bit. Turn water on to rinse hair.

@AmandaHoldensLips and @thenightsky I'd like to do this to save water but then I get the knobs all soapy and I can't grip them well enough to turn them on and off.

Fuck yeah. An absolute trail blazer 🤣 relocation my 50s. Travel alone… you name it (almost) and I’m up for it

Away from the shower so shampoo doesn’t run down into my eyes obviously!
I spent most of my time showering facing away from the shower actually. Dh is more a half an half guy though.
i don’t like water running down my face, makes me feel quite claustrophobic.

Same. I get quite panicky when water is in my eyes and on my face. I think it stems back to primary school when the swimming teacher used to kick us into the pool, and I was absolutely terrified of swimming. To this day I can't swim because of her.

So yes, I also have my back to the shower head.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 31/08/2026 20:57

I do both to make sure all my hair is evenly rinsed. I also take the shower head off the stand to rinse my lower body properly.

I turn away from the shower with my head slightly tilted back - but I have long hair that shampoo/conditioner needs to be rinsed out of; I think that's fairly usual? 🤷

MyDuvetDay · 02/09/2026 02:49

My whole shower experience is spent with my back to the shower. I tilt my head back to rinse my hair and face. Facing the shower is unnecessary and tbh I get dizzy if I spin around too much in there
