Just uninstalled YouTube from our TV

Not before time. Have a 3 yo DD and wondering what you’d recommend for her to watch. I know Bluey is popular but I think it’s a bit old for her at the moment, as are Alphablocks etc (she was only 3 earlier this month.)

She used to like Paddington but that’s gone from Netflix. Any suggestions gratefully received!

I second the vote for Julia Donaldson adaptations - the snail and the whale in particular is calming and the smeds and the smoos is great too.

Thanks. Lots of these are just lovely but she isn’t into them (I am 😭 she isn’t into Puffin Rock as the accents take me home.) And Octonauts is pure brilliance but I would say a bit advanced for her at the moment: her brother likes it. She used to enjoy the Julia Donaldson films; I’ll try her again with them. Zog and Scarecrows Wedding used to be favourites.

She's 3, how much TV does she watch that you need all these suggestions and you've already banned YouTube? She shouldn't have been exposed to YouTube as it it tbh. And if she's getting bored by most of these recommendations perhaps it's a sign?

She shouldn’t but she was and I can’t undo it but I can prevent her from watching it in future it isn’t that she watches ‘a lot’ of TV but if I can find something she’s into that’s better quality that is very helpful as occasionally it is good to have a bit of TV to fall back on.

@teevees do you have a DVD player (or games console that plays DVDs)?
My daughter used to like DVDs that were just pre-school songs. Essentially like watching old style MTV music vids but with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star 🌟

We don’t, no! Perhaps I should look into getting one. She doesn’t have much tv time, it’s mostly in the mornings as she tends to wake up quite early and it is nice to have a bit of peace while I wake up a bit.

CBeebies only from 2-7 years old here. And, only scheduled programming; not on demand. I began to add the occasional Magic Light DVD from 6.

Puffin rock on BBC is great

At 3 my dd1 was addicted to The Sound of Music! We were living in an Arabian desert with nothing on the TV for children except Sindbad cartoons in Arabic. Someone had given us a pirate copy of the S of M - all aeons ago, very little was legally available.

She still loves the S of M over 40 years later! And started her own dd on it at 3 - hence nursery staff v amusedly telling her that Gdd had been saying Heil Hitler! - with a raised arm. But since she was also singing Doh A Deer etc., they had very soon twigged.

Seconding Go Jetters, Octonauts, Ben and Holly and Peter Rabbit. Hey Duggee was hit and miss with DC as I recall although we adults liked it. Alphablocks, numberblocks.

Remember they are often happy to watch things over and over at this age so you don’t need much.

A lot of libraries still do dvd to rent so getting a cheap DVD player could be good.
We watched some very random old stuff on DVD when my daughter was young (she loved 1980s Sooty).

My 3 year old watches Bluey, Hey Dugee, Paw Patrol and loves all of the Julia Donaldson adaptations on iPlayer. He also likes the Philarmonic Orchestra Stories on CBeebies.

I think you can still get Paddington on the Channel 5 app. DS watched a lot of Cbeebies bedtime stories and musical storyland at that age, maybe the Zog séries if she likes the longer versions. Or Timmy Time?

What are her interests ? Does she prefer animation or real people ? My son likes nick cope popcast on cbeebies - as do I and I really recommend tractor ted on prime. Fab songs, sweet animation, gentle. Really, really good.

Oh yes as someone else said the Julia Donaldson films! My son loved tabby mctat for a long time !

She loves unicorns (at the moment; it often changes.)

Tractor Ted - that was a firm favourite here with older dc! I like nick cope too, very calming.

Thanks for that @Mufflette I’ll try to get Paddington tomorrow. Was a bit gutted when it vanished from Netflix.

@teevees if you do get a DVD player see if you can get the old style Paddington series to watch.
She might enjoy that.

3 was peak Frozen year for my DD.

Lots of good suggestions on here already! Colourblocks is aimed at a bit younger than alphablocks and numberblocks so that might be worth a try. My 2 both like Grace's Amazing Machines as well! My 2.5 yo also enjoys Raa Raa the Noisy Lion and Rafi the Wishing Wizard. Oh also Supertato. There are radio versions of some cbeebies shows too which we've found good for the car.
