Is it really that unusual not to colour your hair?

I never have. I was never rebellious in my youth and as an adult have never felt the need.

This is helped (a lot) by the fact that I have that Scandinavian kind of blonde hair naturally, and that at 56 it hasn't yet started going grey. I appreciate that in different circumstances I may well have decided to colour it, but I can't be the only one. 'Everyone' seems to assume my hair is dyed, including hairdressers, on occasion!

I have coloured my hair since I was 14, now 63 and still blonde, with help 😆

I never have, never had any wish as a teen. I’m now early 40’s, started getting a few grey hairs when my daughter was born in my mid 30’s but can’t see the point of dying it. It’s just hair, most people go grey at some point. However I am someone who couldn’t care less about my hair beyond keeping it clean and brushing it. Don’t blow dry it, don’t style it and don’t dye it.
However the pp who made a connection between dye and it not growing long- not in my case, my hair never gets beyond shoulder length, it I leave it and don’t get it cut then it just starts to go more wild not longer. Even when I was a child and desperately wanted long hair it wouldn’t grow!

No I'd say it's extremely common to have undyed hair.

I think you are pretty lucky to not need to. Going grey when you are blond seems to be less noticeable.

I know a few who embrace the greys but most people hide them.

I am 50 . When I was a teenager I dyed it red , black , mahogany, you name it .
i have not dyed it for 20 years now and it is a mouse with a sprinkling of white . I asked my hairdresser whether I should dye it and she said that silver baby lights are all the range now and I should leave it , so I have . I know that if I started I would probably get bored of the upkeep. I wash and brush , but don’t own. hairdryer.

Happily going grey here. Mid brown hair and about 30% grey, mostly around the front - though a lot of the non-grey is the long ends so I might be more grey than I think.

I dyed my hair maybe 5x in my life, at any age.
I just let the colour grow out each time, I don't much care how my hair looks.
My kids think I look 20 yrs older than my actual age just because of my white/gray hair.
I don't mind if I look 20 yrs or whatever yrs older.
I think I'm EXTREMELY unusual in not dying the gray out, while in my adult DD's generation, the females just like to dye their hair for whatever reasons, nothing to do with gray/going gray. Their normal is to use hair dyes often even if their natural colour is very nice.

I just never could be arsed.

I'm 66 with long thick curly blonde hair and have never coloured it, I get asked this when I visit a hairdresser (I go to different ones) and I have no intentions of dying my hair when I turn grey, I have a couple of grey hairs.

I haven’t ever (apart from blonde highlights a couple of times), mostly because I have natural strawberry blonde hair which still isn’t going grey at 45, also I wouldn’t be able to go dark without doing my eyebrows and eyelashes too or I would look ill

I’m quite a lot older than you, natural blonde, and have never gone grey. It’s genetic - my DM still had slightly faded ‘golden’ - what they used to call strawberry blonde - hair at 80* and still wasn’t properly grey, let alone white, when she died at 97.

I do brighten mine up every few weeks (it starts to look a bit dull, but that’s probably my age) with John Frieda’s Go Blonder spray, you put it on wet hair and the dryer fixes it. IMO that stuff is brilliant - looks so natural. And a bottle lasts for ages.

*At around that age she fell out with a neighbour who accused her of lying when she said she didn’t dye it!

I’d dyed my hair blonde for pretty much 25 years, using highlights. Had forgotten what my natural colour was (a light brown from memory and old photos!)
In the last year, I’ve started growing the blonde out (it was in terrible condition) and have a toner over it that matches my natural hair colour. It suits me so much better. I think it is unusual to have your natural colour. I don’t know many people who do.

of my circle of 8 women friend half colour their hair. But we are in our 60s. I have coloured my hair since my teens as I started going grey then. No idea how long the others have. One friend who is almost 70 I always assumed was a natural white blonde as she has very pale skin and never had roots but she says she colours it (she may be all white now I guess). The others are just natural with no grey; two brunettes one blonde.

Vast majority of women i know colour their hair. I think it's probably more unusual not to

I used to dye it pink/blue/green as a teenager, sometimes all at the same time. With my friends we used to think it would be nice to have grey hair because the colours would show up better!

I’m mid 40s now with a few greys here and there but haven’t dyed my hair for about 15 years. Can’t be bothered with the faff although that might change when I get greyer.

Lucky you. Now I am completely white and can't be bothered.

I'm 49 and I'm more silver than brown, I have short thick hair that needs cutting every 4 weeks, I'd be an absolute disaster with a home dye kit, I'd colour the bathroom and loose an eyebrow! I've also got a halo (a band of silver that drives my hairdresser demented as she keeps trying to blend it and it is unblendable!)

I coloured mine for years - thanks greys- until I realised in my 50s I can’t be arsed. I haven’t coloured it for about 2 and a half years now.

No, I don’t, I kinda like how it looks with the few greys I have, I sometimes try to style it so they are more prominent, I have very dark brown hair and I like the contrast.

I don’t get this obsession with not showing your greys. Don’t show that you’re ageing, whatever you do! It’s about time we embraced being older and wiser!

The roots look hideous anyway, and I can spend money and time much better.

I think it's been about 5 years since I stopped having highlights. I don't dye it either. It's a mix of grey and chestnut now.

I only started colouring mine to cover greys very recently & always found it odd how other women were shocked that I didn’t colour it - just b’cos. Like they couldn’t get that someone could like & be happy with their natural colour nor did they want to just have different coloured hair particularly. I find that more odd tbh!

Another one saying that if I was Scandinavian blonde with no grey in my 50s I definitely wouldn't color it. But my childhood blonde had turned to a muddy brown by the time I was in my teens and then the white hairs appeared by mid-twenties. I now spend a fortune to ensure it looks like I was born a Scandinavian blonde (including having a "Scandi hairline."

I’m a redhead and haven’t but I’m about to start as my red is so fading that someone said my hair didn’t look red at all
