How can loud speakerphone use on public transport be discouraged?

This summer I have noticed a rise in people speaking extremely loudly with their speakerphones on. I am a big believer in each to his own but I experienced an awful episode on a bus where there were at least 6-7 people all speaking on their phones and one with a disgustingly booming voice was sat next to an elderly woman who had no headphones to drown him out. I felt so bad for her that I asked him to tone it down. He did but not by much.

What can be done to make inconsiderate individuals keep it down on public transport, aside from buy a car and stay clear. My only issue with this, is as you get older you may need to give up driving.

If a rule is introduced that speakerphone calls and loud music is banned, the driver could press a button and a loud booming voice repeatedly would say "No speakerphone or music allowed", and again, and again. They won't hear their calls or their music that way! It would also embolden others to say something, if there is a rule.

I'd prefer that on repeat than mindless loud chat about nothing, and loud music rapping away.

Even headphones arent the answer. I nearly went demented this morning on my daily commute. The guy next to me had ear bud style headphones but I could hear 90% of the music he was playing , soneone behind had headphones but I could hear the beat of their music (not as loud as person next to me, but still loud enough to be annoying) and a third person had some really fucking annoying repetitive and irritating kids game/video on with no headphones.

What can I say to headphones guy? I cant say "cant you put headphones on?" He has but they almost useless!

But they don't need a headphone jack. You can get headphones that plug into the charger hole.
